Ive been waiting to replace mine. They are around 4 Years old. Still amazing though, but its time for a new set!

Well I cant really play them TOO loud haha. They still like brand new I spose.
Best Speakers Ive ever owned without a doubt.

I wonder how much they will sell for if and when we get the replacements. Id be happy with another set :D

Oh these ARE nice lookin' puuurdy things...

Ballpark figure cost-wise ??

Good nick Z-5500s can fetch R2,000 - R2,500.

damn, just looked at the specs Z5500 sub 188wats RMS, and the "new" Z906; 165wats RMS sub :( boohoo......

R4,500. :(

I'd recommend them if you really need surround sound.

Otherwise for that sort of budget and more music-listening I would rather recommend the Z623s at about R1,500 - these are the replacements of the famous Z-2300s (R1,800) which might still be available but are out of production. They ruled the 2.1 PC speakers market for about 6 years.

To go with those, one of the most important things - a good sound card especially with Dolby presets. Asus Xonar Essence STX PCI-E - R1,250. Or the ST version for PCI (slightly more expensive). These sound cards allow you to connect 2.1 speakers as well as higher end headphones via amplified (required) 6.3mm ports.

Newer Dolby presets emulate surround sound on 2.1/2.0/stereo speakers. Quite amazing when you hear how good it is. Better than any "5.1/7.1 gaming headset" IMO.

did they discontinue the z5500's? I can't find pics of them on the product page.

amazing how the value of the Z-5500 haven't dropped much since their release...

I would still go for them even when these get released...

I have always wanted them and so must just have them even if they out dated...

love my Logitech brand...

Most likely. They've discontinued most of their older speakers, such as Z-4, Z-2300, etc.

Unfortunately they have been replaced with inferior models. Lighter, lower wattage, smaller size drivers in the speakers, etc.

Although, to the average ear or someone new to Logitech's higher end speakers - what they didn't know won't hurt them.

Sigh, I love the sound from my puny X-550s but I can only imagine what these must sound like. If only I had the cash to throw around for them...

Are these meant to be hooked up to a PC or can they be used in a home theater?

Both.

It seems the Z906's "sub woofer amplifier/receiver" has been improved on - allowing for more inputs, in turn allowing you to connect more devices.
