23:24 < SymmHome> seacom dead again
23:26 < SymmHome> marcog, looks like smw3
23:26 < SymmHome> somewhere between marseille and mumbai
23:26 < SymmHome> just pray this is a simple power issue
23:27 < SymmHome> because if its an actual break, we're all ****ed
23:27 < SymmHome> (again)
23:37 < SymmHome> yeah, this is definately smw3, confirmed failures of people who have capacity on there coming outta maraza
23:43 < SymmHome> it looks like this break could be in one of the worst possible places
23:43 < SymmHome> because it eliminates all the reroute options if Im right about where it is
23:45 < SymmHome> Im going to hazarad an educated guess that this failure is between mazara in southern italy and alexandria in egypt
23:45 < SymmHome> now, normally, if it was between mumbai and alexandria, seacom could route to alexandria, and hook into smw3 there
23:46 < SymmHome> however, if its north of alexandria unless TE-NORTH was completed and I don't know it, we're all ****ed
23:46 < SymmHome> potentially for days

01:23 SymmHome: they are now saying terrestrial fiber fault between cairo and alexandria
SEACOM EXPANDS PAN-AFRICAN NETWORK - 16 Mar 2011
Access to five additional countries and increased submarine capacity to enhance seamless offering to customer
16 March 2011 - SEACOM’s ongoing focus on connecting broadband starved African countries is bearing fruit for South Africa’s neighbours, with SEACOM’s low cost services becoming accessible from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe. SEACOM’s network expansion to provide such accessibility is coupled with increasing resilience through its recent acquisition of east and west coast submarine cable capacity.
This approach of partnering with established players to provide broadband services will continue as SEACOM develops its products and services based on resiliency, service quality and flexibility in line with customers’ evolving needs.
Suveer Ramdhani, SEACOM’s Head of Product Strategy, said:
“This latest development is integral to the continued development and expansion of the SEACOM network in Africa and in particular to countries that have had limited access to broadband connectivity. We will continue to build relationships to meet our customers’ growing need for resilient and seamless capacity. This is part of SEACOM’s objective to build the African Internet.”
SEACOM truly believes in a world where the African Internet experience is characterised by abundant local content, minimal latency, fast download and streaming speeds, and interconnected African markets. Only 18 months after commercial launch, a number of countries across the continent now have the ability to access the SEACOM network with several more expected to be able to do so by the end of 2011
