Is it just me or has WA's connectivity been degrading over the past few weeks?

Pings are still great as always, and if I go to speedtest.net my line gets the 3.4MBPS and 0.4MBPS it should but when browsing I get a lot of intermittent timeouts. Gmail over the past week has been constantly timing out, Google and MyBB randomly just timeout for about 2-5 minutes at a time (browsing).

I've always found WA to be far better than the rest but I find myself turning to my Afrihost free 1gb account more and more because of the frustrating connectivity. I have another line in a different suburb using WA and a clients office of mine up in JHB also is using an account and they too are also experiencing random connectivity issues.

Difficult to pin point as it's very intermittent and usually only a few minutes. I know Google's been doing peering maintenance and the other day WA was having difficulty in connecting to HTTPS websites (as their support told me). Just seems like the expected every now and then glitches in the network are becoming frequent enough to be quite annoying.

I agree with you. We use WA at work and intermittently numerous sites time out. Have ing said that, I am also habing similar issues with my home Axxess account.

Agreed. Can't access Hotmail. I also haven't been able to access a few UKZN websites that I can with my Afrihost account. Service has definitely been degrading.

Yes I picked up some hicups lately as well, sometimes i even reboot my router in the hope it gets better. Noticed certain sites I used to download from speeds have decreased significantly (hotfile)

not just hotfile, mweb 4mb has also been crapping out on certain sites

Unfortunately I'm experiencing the same as mentioned above. Also, browsing during the day is also much slower than after hours where before it made no difference when I browsed sites.

The Google peering maintenance has made matters worse. I used to load the GMail site and log in within seconds but now it can take up to 40 seconds just to connect to the GMail site. It just says "waiting to connect to mail.google.com" in my browser status bar and then it feels like forever before it eventually loads and logs me in.
Same goes for other Google services. I browse news.google.co.za often and that first attempt to connect is always slow (where 3 months ago it loaded in 2 seconds, always) and after that I can browse at normal speed.

Like you, I now have to rely on my 1Gb free Afrihost account more often.

Agreed.

I am pleased I am not the only one - I am still trying to have issues sorted out from over 2 months ago (some issues are Telkom) but yes their service is certainly on the decline. What I find frustrating is that matters are referred to developers; engineers etc and I am told the matter has been resolved, yet my experience is far what it used to be. I am also so tired of moaning.

Gmail is often "unable to reach Gmail"

Not sure what it is going to be like when the business uncapped kicks in fully - probably will be worse. Not a happy thought

Yep WA is up to **** lately i usually have a backup account for gaming if my express+ doesnt perform nicely, and suffice to say i think dialup would be better than WA at the moment.

Look they not always that great but I am not having the same problems. Yeah gmail load a bit slow at times, but cnn load in like 5-10 seconds which is quite fine. Downloads seem shaped though.

Downloading is the one thing that is still hassle free and normally goes full speed - this is an area I do not have hassles with, but would rather have hassle free browsing and slower downloads as I browse the net every day.

Whoa? Gosh I hope this won't be the case for the new business uncapped products? If it is I will be seriously pissed come 1 April

Also noticed this trend on my WA account. Thought about posting something here regarding this slowdown and time-outs, but if it was only one person experiencing it, it would get little attention.

Glad someone else also picked up on it.

Still no response from the WA reps. Interesting.

Hopefully this means they are looking into the matter and will be responding shortly with some positive reactions as to what they are doing to address these concerns and problems

Yea I'm definitely also experiencing the same/similar interruptions as the OP stated.

Nope, it means that I'm off sick today, so I'm getting to things a little slower than usual.
Great being off on a Monday, horrible actually being sick. Meh, anyway...

I'll follow up on things with the guys at the office, should have a response up a little later guys :)

Sheesh I need a little bit of reassurance that I am not making a mistake at the moment. You don't want to read these threads before moving over to a new ISP

Gmail/Google Apps is a big issue - very slow and Gmail keeps losing connection and reconnecting - switching back to Afrihost again.. wondering what the issue is here

Yup, same this side, very frustrating. Need to reload Gmail accounts constantly, Gmail notifier getting timed out messages, etc... :(

Same here.

Heavy shaping on file d/l sites at arbitrary times i.e. no correlation with business hours. <20KB/s on an account rated for 10mbps? Really?

Gmail struggling to load (HTTPS seems better).

Pages loading blank or only partially, esp heavy sites like FB, WSJ, NYT if uncached.

Connection to servers lost on downloads (lost ~500mb like that in last 2 weeks due to no resume support).

Even the news server is a disaster (set it before leaving house & return to find its downloaded 200mb & then says can't connect)...thats also new behaviour.

Either the shaping system is fubar or the whole thing is simply oversubscribed, but something is definitely very wrong atm. Also, WAJeff I sent you a PM 2 weeks ago telling you that something about the shaping system is feeling funky. ;)
