Eskom makes R3bn boo-boo

The February 9 explosion ripped through one of the turbines at the power station, causing extensive damage to the station’s infrastructure and immediately removing 600MW from the country’s electricity supply. That amount can power a city the size of Bloemfontein during peak hours.

It has now emerged that human error or lack of personnel caused the explosion, as it happened *during a routine check.

Eskom is investigating whether the control room at the station was unmanned when all its safety mechanisms failed during a maintenance test on February 9.

The fiasco was caused by a faulty bolt which was supposed to have slowed down the turning speed of the *turbine once it started spinning 10% faster than it was designed to.

Eskom and bolts. Guess who will be paying (again)!

the brain-drain will cost us a lot in future...

The consumer is already started paying for this boo-boo.

The pity is ... this story will forever remain journalism because nobody will ever be able to prove this.

Wow I bet somebody is going to get a real talking to because of this! Then will probably be transferred with a R3 million bonus or promoted.

+1. If they really ****ed up super-bad, the person responsible will get a golden shower or handshake or whatever, and retire in luxury, with us paying for it. (Plus of course the other teensy-weensy amount we're already paying to fix the minor boo-boo)

Haha, golden shower... Something needs to be done in that company, they are way to many screw ups.

Too true. Now if the ANC could have seen further than their noses when they first took power, none of this "brain drain" would have happened.
Some of it would have happened. The early brain drain was that of what Mandela called 'chicken runners', those no one could stop;)

All this, thanks to BEE/AA. All the real skill people have been removed and replaced with previously disadvantaged labourers.

Make no mistake, this is only the beginning, power stations failing, bridges and buildings collapsing. Enjoy your BEE/AA and eat it like humble pie ANC :)

Ha ha ! You have a rich imagination. Do you even know anyone who works for Eskom ?

So bridges and buildings are going to start falling ? What after that ? Frogs and locusts from the sky ?

Cute.
You joking right?
Our water, electricity, armed services, police, public health, roads are all in a bloody mess.
Have you been living under a rock?
