Do you think MWEB should be allowed to advertise their ADSL products as uncapped?

I have no issues either but this is a good ruling - uncapped means uncapped and its time that business in SA start acting morally and stop hiding behind fancy AUP's and advertising

Theres goes cybersmarts response of "it's not actually uncapped" - haha!

I do 250GB on heavy months no complaints

I have NO idea how you guys do so much data a month. I looked at my friends MWEB 4MB connection and everything is shaped so much! Only thing that was fast is Youtube and Google.

So Whats the real reason these folks got the boot.

I was begining to like MWEB.

Excellent call by the ASA. Telling bald faced lies to consumers in the hope of making a quick buck is as low down and dirty a tactic as a common thief's.

I know a while back that people tried to circumvent the shaping and throttling. Maybe something along that lines as it can't be because of data usage. I know people that downloads quite allot and nothing has happened to them.

Been saying this all along. Mweb's product is fake and misleading. The Term "Uncapped" should be reserved for those products that are really uncapped.
But the ASA is also to blame for dropping the ball on that first ruling. Now they have just confused the issue.
Nobody should ever be disconnected from an uncapped account.

I agree with no-one should be disconnected from the uncapped account, but didn't you have a problem with the throttling and shaping? Because the first hearing was more about the "draconian" throttling and shaping. I see no confusion here, the ASA seem to be fair to me in this one.

So where are all the smartasses that told me a while ago Mweb's AUP was perfectly clear and totally specific now? The ASA agrees that that they didn't give an adequate reason for cutting these people off. Egg, meet face!

Still though, I'm happy with Mweb's service, I keep hearing about these people getting shaped etc etc but the slowest my connection has ever been is about 75% of full speed, it's leaps and bounds above any other ISP I've ever used, even "unshaped" products, and they like pissing Telkom off, so as long as they don't try any of these shena****ns on me, I'm a happy customer.

Although not an uncapped Mweb user myself (I don't need to stroke my own ego by downloading the whole internet each month), they have proved to be an excellent service to the majority of normal users. It only takes a handful of idiots to stuff it up for the rest, and then they have the audacity to complain?

It's simple: You are using my service. If you don't like my AUP then piss off, we don't need people like you...

Wrong, they do need their customers, unlike the 99.999% of other SA businesses, who think customers exist to serve them and should be glad for whatever scraps they get.

The problem here, if you read the article, is that MWEB couldn't actually show how (or even if) the complainant actually did go against the AUP. Which is more than fair, if they disconnect someone they should at least be able to tell them why.

Nowhere in the AUP does it say you're only allowed to use a certain amount of data. It's not Internet Dilutions, it's MWEB.

Well thats the thing I guess, I download a lot of stuff and maybe hit 200gigs at most so for me MWEB is the best product in SA. Great speeds, great service, great product.
That being said, uncapped means uncapped, no limits even if you do 10 TB. Mweb know how much the maximum is and should budget accordingly.

My theory is that the "Wises" set up a little private wireless network and rented out portions of their account. I haven't heard of anyone being kicked off for downloading too much.

I think this is unfair. Every uncapped service in the world (that I know of) has a FUP and subscribers need to adhere to it. While im a big supporter of more freedom in these regards, MWEB did SA a real favour, and people like the Wise's are arguing against the expansion of uncapped.

i have no issues with mweb, do 250gb minimum every month, i am interested to know how the wise's used the account, if they bypassed shaping etc.

Uncapped is supposed to mean just they. Best call the ASA ever made. Guess Afrihost and co will follow shortly or will start providing true uncapped :erm:
