Most of Cape Town CBD's 10 Mbps lines have been reduced to 6 Mbps, to facilitate the 1 Mbps upgrade, as the exchanges are unable to facilitate the additional traffic - due to the lack of investment in infrastructure - check your line speed!

This should read: Telkom line speed DOWNGRADES!

Received 17 complaints from clients so far, requested Telkom Support to restore lines to 10 Mbps, was refused request on all lines and informed that it is currently restricted to 6 Mbps.

Awaiting further feedback from Telkom, areas affected Leeusig (Tamboerskloof), Barrack Street (Cape Town, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek, etc.), etc.

Are you connected to major city exchange and has your line speed been reduced, please post reply?

So people who had 10mb is forking over 10mb bandwidth package prices while Telkom just unilaterally decides with no warning to bump down their speed to 6mb? That's ****ing insane!

They advertise up to 10mbps from 1mbps. They are operating at their advertised speeds

My exchange is still on 4MB, so I won't know the difference.

Thanks for info, find it odd that Telkom only sortof guarentees up to 4 mbps yet the ISP is selling 10Mbps package !
Not strange at all; the ISPs need to protect themselves as they have volume-based wholesale models (they pay per Gb).

Ja well, our exchange is still on wet string, so my "up to" 4Mb/s line still runs as if it was a 1Mb/s on good days. Those of you getting stable 6Mb/s should be thrilled.
