Just a warning to everyone, that if you've spotted doods at robots or street vendors selling 32GB usb flash drives with Kingston/transend lable and packaging.

These are more than likely fakes. A few colleges have made the mistake of buying these.
(I laughed though since this has been going on for the last 2 years already, just before it was the 512mb being sold as 2gb ect)

They will also show as 32gb when u plug them in,
but as soon as you try to copy large files, u'll notice than only 1 or 2 gigs actually get onto the drives. Sometimes an error wont even be reported, you'll just notice later that the file haddn't coppied.

If you've already been scammed however, theres a tiny bit of good news.
You can replace the hacked firmware on the drive and return it to its true/original 2gb capacity, so at least its not a total loss.

One of my work colleges bought one of these from a street vendor - after I told him it is a scam .
The drive wouldn't even open.

So who buys technology from a street vendor, really?

it may have been that the disk was formatted to fat32 which has a 3 or 4 gb copy limit i think , i had that in the past with a terabyte, drive, formatted it to ntfs and all good, but there again good chance they could of been faked

This is a common assumtion, but formatting it to NTFS will just fail and brick it.
Easiest way to test it just dump 3 or 4 gigs of photos on it, (it will actually finish coping with no problems) unplug it, put it back, half the files wont either wont be there, or wont open if u click em.

Well I've heard stories of these guys dressed all smartly walking into colleges, prettending to be sales reps, business cards and everthing, selling these things like hotcakes for like R100 to the students.

Ending in T_T for ripped off student, and a fake cellphone number on the card.

They do the same with external hdd's. Connect a small memory card inside the hdd enclosure and no-one knows until you connect it up, except it mightj ust feel lighter.

That's why they put some metal objects inside the enclosure. See my post above ^ :p

I have seen these guys at the street corners, they are selling the 32Gb drives for R150.00 here in Cape Town.

If you buy a 32GB drive for R150.00 from a traffic light vendor then you should be scammed for stupidity.

my sentiments exactly hey..........did u right for being so gullible.......lol

Mate still bartered with a dood, and got him down to R80, I still said to him no reason to be pissed off, R80 for an 2GB drive isnt too bad. :P

i seen 128GB, 256GB and 880GB "Kingston" Flash drives brought in from China. Lol
once u copy more than 1 folder on it the other folders all stay empty.

lol @ 880GB flash drives. Just imagine

LOL I had a customer that bought a fake 32GB Transcend flash drive for R150.. When you plug into PC nothing happens, upon opening/disassembling flash drive there is no electronics on the inside only usb connector.. Another classic scam.. xD

It acctually looked geniune packaging.. But warning light came on when I saw green color like the 4GB drives and it said 32GB on it.. Also felt very light.. :D
