New video-on-demand service in SA soon

"We're looking at minimum cost," says Dube. "The specific pricing has not been decided but it will be cheaper than what people are currently paying for subscription television in South Africa."

Trouble is this sounds wonderful but i pay for dstv purely for sport, so it's pretty much out of the question unless it is like very cheap. Also it will be hard to beat free 1080p movies.

We are look at a minimum cost. Thank you very much for letting us know. Extremely helpful.

Meh, I've been disappointed too many times in the past to get excited about something. The fact that they are providing "minimum" information isn't helping their case. They should probably also keep it mind that other 50% of those with credit records have impaired credit records, and SA is still recovering from the Financial Crisis, so its probably not the best time to launch.

"first the movie theatre, then VOD, then DVD, then pay TV, then free-to-air"

thats nice but main question is $$

Correction - first the movie theatre, then Torrent/nzb then VOD, then DVD, then pay TV, then free-to-air" lol

I dunno, having yet another decoder and equipment to lock you in is really not what i consider making progress. Provide a good streaming service locally instead.

Why would i want to buy more hardware so i can "rent" videos? In the rest of the world the latest trend is to offer videos/movies/series on iTunes/Xbox/Netflix/Amazon/SkyTV/iPlayer for direct streaming. You pay $3-$5, you get x-days to watch it before the download stops working or you pay full price to keep it permanently.

Main reason why more people in SA don't use these services is because it's not available here [region restrictions] and of course international speeds via a VPN is not great for these types of things. I am pretty sure if i could connect to a local service where i would get my full 3+ Mbps line speed, streaming in HD would be a non-issue.
