Web Africa Off-Peak ADSL packages launched

FAQ

Q: What bandwidth profile do the Home Connect accounts fall under?
A: They fall under Silver. More info on our Bandwidth Profiles here

Q:What is online gaming like on these accounts?
A:If you're looking for much better latency, specifically for US or EU servers - you might want to consider adding on Home Pro. For SA gaming, these accounts are perfect.

Q:What is peak and off peak?
A:Peak is from 7AM to 7PM. Off Peak bandwidth is automatically utilised when you use your internet from 7PM to 7AM also including Weekends and Public Holidays.

Q:What are the Telkom line and the ADSL line?
A:hese are two separate services. Your Telkom monthly billed phone line will need to be ordered through Telkom and is used for making normal phone calls. If you require ADSL on your Telkom line, it is an additional service you will have to order. The ADSL portion of your line can be ordered through Web Africa at a discounted rate as part of our ADSL Complete packages. No need for you to deal with Telkom!

Q:What do I need to get connected?
A:A Telkom line (monthly billed), an ADSL router, a Micro Filter and a Web Africa ADSL complete package. Please refer to our ADSL starter’s guide for more info.

This is welcome news indeed for those of us who do not download the internet on a daily basis.

Well done Web Africa - Jeff how shaped is this package, e.g. if I want to use torrents after 7pm ?
Also how are weekends and public holidays charged - are the 7pm to 7am times still in force?

Morning Electron1,

The standard packages for Home are silver quality bandwidth, however you can add the Pro add-on which will bump the prioritisation levels over to Titanium. Have a look at the KB article for bandwidth profiles to see what protocols are prioritised :)

That's it? So my Titan package I scored last year is still better.
Oh well, at least some other people will like this.

I'm looking for an ISP now and I'm not impressed with this. OpenWeb Gold Afterhours seems to be the one I am leaning to. It seems if someone wants uncapped, their only choices for ISP is Mweb and OpenWeb. :(

I'm also somewhat disappointed. R599 for 50GB (10GB of which is during peak) still falls short of offers like Afrihost's R475 for 50GB anytime bandwidth. The titan and RedAfrica packages were definitely more exciting. Oh well, small steps.

Guys, there seems to be some confusion around the Titan special accounts in comparison to the Home Connect product.
The Titan's where very cheap, yes - I agree. However because these where special accounts and only a limited number of accounts where given away we could price them like this.

The Home Connect product is a range that has no limitation on the number of purchases.

It's like comparing buying a pizza at a normal price off the menu as apposed to buying the same pizza off GroupOn for 50% less.

Were and Where are not the same thing. Maybe consult a dictionary before you post :D

PS. I've been waiting for a fixed IP address (on Business Contract) from WA for more than 3 years now, still no clear answer.

@WAJeff it says the DownloadPlus limits have been increased, can we get some more details ? The only schedule I see in this article is for the Home Connect. Should I check the knowledge base ?

My bad Joe.... it's too early! Been rocking the coffee since 6am this morning :D
Fixed IP's are on their way, we'll have some further information on that once things have been further confirmed.

The Download Plus limit's have changed. Before (as in yesterday) you could only allocate a maximum amount of Download Plus in accordance to your monthly cap. For example, if you have a 10GB package you'll only be able to allocate 10GB's of Download Plus.

Now though, you can have a 2GB monthly cap for example and allocate up to 200GB's of Download Plus :D

If I did not already have one of the MyBB specials, I'd be all over this, it fits my usage pattern almost perfectly.

Unfortunately I spent way too much of my precious time sorting out errors in WA's billing system and dealing with staff who just don't have time for the customer's problems. I would personally never consider this despite the attractive price tag. For the record, I love WA for what they have done for the SA broadband market.

@WAJeff I may digress a bit. If I am one of the fortunate few who did get Titan 3 Complete. How much download plus did I qualify for then and what is the equivalent DownloadPlus allocation now ?

And do you now use JINX ? Or is all network traffic still routed via Cape Town ?

Well looking at the 200GB offer, Afrihost is way cheaper and you can you use the data when and how you like, unshaped! But at least WebAfrica are trying.

*yawn* WebAfrica long since faded into irrelevance.
