How much money do you have left?

Without a credit card, i wouldnt be able to make many internet purchases (plane tickets, accomodation, dvd's, music, software etc etc)
Any Visa/Mastercard (including cheque cards) will do that just as easily. It doesn't need to be a credit card.
20K .. wow, thats a big buffer :).

Yeah, I dip into my credit card come month end. Settle it once I get paid to avoid paying interest.
If I need cash in an emergency, I am able to withdraw from my investment account, but I guess its not good to do that.
Hopefully I dont have an emergency in this lifetime. :)
Yeah I always go through these weird scenarios - what if my gearbox goes, what if I need to be rushed to hospital and there are medical aid issues, etc.

No it does not, game play is awkward on the iPad, it's a bit heavy. I can take my iPod to the bathroom with me without people staring :p.

Ha ha, i guess the bathroom point makes sense.

it's simple: no money, no buy! (house is a possible exception here, as property values go up faster than savings potentially do).

it expenses > 75% of salary, lower your "standard" of living.

keep at least 6 months' salary saved up.

don't use accounts. if the above factors are met, then you can save the extra and buy CASH!

there are almost NO financial problems that can't be solved by getting a cheaper place, buying less nice stuff, having a more practical car.

any mature person should be able to understand that "nice-to-haves" come second to financial prudence!

So rapid did you buy your gf that 23k fridge?

I've got about 1k atm...but I'm a student so everything is a bit different.

sigh R800

usually have a little more but nappies and pre-order of bf3 kinda killed me ;)

I move all extra money from my transactional account to a higher interest bearing investment account.
Thats why I have less than 1K in my account come month end. :)

+1 - With the amount of internet banking fraud occurring atm - it is advisable to keep only that amount of money that you can afford to lose in your card accounts.
(I have another accessible savings account with 5K for emergencies - that is not linked online and that I would never use at an ATM)

R2500 left for the month.
CC maxed out yesterday. Paid UNISA deposit and bought some of the prescribed books.
R15k+ in savings only to be used in emergency.

-lots...

Bought house, did renovations, getting married... all expensive ****...
