Team Fortress 2 now free... Forever!

Fantastic game, but it is hardly a daring move as it has been out for almost 4 years already and that the larger audience for their add-on market will make more than any direct sales of the game could.

Hopefully this will add a fair amount of new players to the SA community so we can have more than one server a night going.

Haven't played TF2 in ages, every time I try there seems to be a steam update so I lose patience and play something else. I hear it's all about hats and trading now? How does that work? If I haven't played in about 2 years will I be at a disadvantage (other than being extremely noob again)?

I figured as much about the hats.
Do the other weapons and items drop randomly like before are there "only get from crafting" weapons?
Mainly want to know that if I'm playing vanilla loadout I won't get shat on from a dizzying height by other people who have all the extra stuff.
 
No everything is balanced, it basically comes down to preference.
I prefer most of the standard items.
The extra stuff drops randomly, some can be crafted and some are from doing achievements.
 
Can I have my money back?

Bought it about 3 years ago, then again I stopped playing it as well... Guess I paid for the time I had before other people.
 
I thought I would try this game. So I go to the Steam store and its 10gigs to download it.
So there's no chance I'll be able to play it now.
TF 2 a client only or is there single player as well, because 10gigs is huge for a client only.

Get yourself the cheapest WA account you can, then download it for free!
 
Some of the new weps are over powered but as a soldier, I use normal shotty, normal rl and equalizer. There's 5 ISgaming servers and now there's always 48+ players playing.

There is a One Night Cup on tonight, 7pm, the details are on tf2.co.za Come watch a little competitive tf2.
 
All 5 RTV servers are full most of the time, with some people also playing on SGS.
I would say its 100+ players all the time.
 
Since 13 June the IS servers alone have had about 3200 unique players join, 2700 of whom are from SA.

Is steam the only way you can download it? How can I distribute it to my friends without them downloading it?

And, can I download it with Webafrica for free?

You can copy the files to some else's Steam folder, they then just need to add it to their account and click on install. It will then see the files and the "download" will be finished instantly.
 
The best way to copy the game is to find somebody that has it installed.
Click "backup game files" and it will create a DVD image or two with an "installer.exe".
Just run that and the game will install.

You can download it free from WA but you need to make sure steam only downloads from their servers.
