SouthTel video on demand service here soon

At last, some decent competition for Multichoice. Particularly interested in HD content. I hope the price is right.

So now houses have a DSTV, Top TV and now SouthTel dishes if they want true diversity. Why can't they all just use one dish and a generic PVR decoders. I don't want two or three decoders.

Yeah I'm not too keen on having ANOTHER decoder, and I assume you won't be able to re-use your current Dstv dish? So do you need a seperate dish pointing in another direction, because from which satellite are these guys streaming? But if the price is really right.. I mean better than a movie contract at my local DVD store then it might just work...

Do you really think Multichoice is going to encourage competitors to make use of their existing hardware, thus making it far easier to lose customers to them?

i think the dstv dish will work with southtel

Question is just which satellite they are going to use, if not the same or one that has very similar location in geo-orbit you will have to choose which one. But my guess is there aren't too many of them, and if they are not sharing with DSTV they will probably be sharing with TopTV which means TopTV&VOD can then run on same sat-config.

I am very curious on prices and content though... I hope they can make a 100% honest man of me, thumbs crossed :)

just thinking of ditching toptv ... their content is still lacking and they have just increased their prices(without notice) ... so not impressed with them at all.
definitely gonna downgrade my package with them and will probably get this when it comes out

Is it too much to ask for some technical details...

What bird? Which PVR? Which CAS?

Bird - IS7,later IS20
PVR - TT-Select S950 HD PVR
CAS - Nagra for Sentech,a new cas called SafeAccess from Logiways, which is also a minority partner.
They also use their middleware,Magello, and the vod solution,VODAccess

Is this actually legit or is it another "Super 5 Media"-like mess?

Witch one of these satellites will they be using

• Intelsat 10
• Arabsat 5A
• Eutelsat W3A
• Intelsat 7
• Astra 4A

I'll buy it anyway! Can't wait. Now we'll have dstv, toptv, vod.tv and dstv's boxoffice. Now all we need is a generic "all-in-one" decoder

Isn't IS7 the same one as Dstv? This might be a totally noob technical question but then I wonder if you can at least re-use the same dish in some way (twin LNB with one cable going to Dstv and another to this decoder)??
