Vodacom victim of sabotage

With CPA claims from irate customers I would also blame the bogey man for cutting my cables.

OR the person/group cut the 1st cable thinking it was copper and then abandoned the rest after realizing it was fiber?
 
Man what a confusing article. So its covering 3 incidents if I read it right
30 June event -> Transmission failure of some kind
17 June event -> Contractor fck up
19 May event -> Possibly malicious cut

Would help if you actually read the article. But then, as you've said in the past, you believe reading not to to be prerequisite to comment. :rolleyes:

Let me see if I can summarise for you:

Was this specific cable vandalised?: YES

Was this the cause of Thursday's outage?: NO

How much simpler can I make it for you?

Typically they would cut the other cables as well to check. But, most importantly, they would not bother to fill up the hole again, they'd just walk away.

In this case the hole was dug right on top of the cable run, only one sleeve was neatly sawed through and then the hole was filled up again. Not your normal cable theft modus operandi.

Actually a number of articles already cleared it up. ;)

Best of all, it was never even stated as such. It came from a radio interview with Pieter (on Friday, I think) where he spoke about the various causes for services disruption and he did mention cable breaks as a typical cause but did state it was not the cause for Thursday's problems.

As per usual, someone put 2 and 2 together and came up with 7 and the story ran from there.

Reality is, transmission failures are a daily occurrence, especially with all the digging and laying activities going on at the moment. Everyone is trying to get as much infrastructure in the ground to satisfy the pent-up demand and it invariably will lead to damage to existing infrastructure. The big break we had about 2 weeks ago is one such example, one contractor doing work and in the process damaging another's cable. Sometime sh*t just happens.

Other times (like in the case of these pictures), it's more than just an unintentional accident.
