Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have joined because i need assistance as i really don't know anymore...
The scenario is as follows:

I had my Telkom Voice Line with MWeb 384 Uncapped-Shaped-All inclusive.
I upgraded this to 1024 Uncapped-Shaped-All inclusive.
My line was upgraded on the 11th, and i have been getting +-100kb (or kB i'm not sure) download speed as i was expecting.
But on about the 18th i started to get issues where certain download pages don't load.
This sort of fixed itself on the 20th, but started again on the 28th.

I experience this with download sites. Sites like Letitbit, MegaShares, FileSonic, FileServe, MegaUpload, etc.
But other sites work. Sites like Rapidshare, Diglo & UploadStation.

The weird thing though is that i can get to the home page of the site, but not the download page (not even the download itself)
So as an example, i can get to: http://letitbit.net/
But i cannot get to: http://letitbit.net/download/1525508/97168.97c7c6ce5f57aefd5d991b808366/01.zip.html
So it does not appear to block the domain.

I have tried a completely new Router, and a different PC, but the issue still occurs. The site deffinately works on 3G.

MWeb support is useless because they don't phone when they say they will, and insist this is a shaping issue.

My question is if this could be shaping? Even if i try this connection @21:00 at night.
Why would it suddenly stop like this after working great for months?
Could this be due to upgrading?
Could this be for some reason i upgraded to 1MB, but am still under the 384 profile and thus throttled?
Is there anything i can try from my side or do i have to wait and see IF support wants to get back to me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

*PS: I am not out to bad mouth MWeb, but i am not getting support and need help!!!

As an AH customer I can confirm the throttling around P2P sites, my FS sucks with downloads but yet RS works just fine. I have a theory that most users are now downloading through FS and hence their ports are shaped more heavily than say Rapidshare (who lost a lot of users lately due to policy changes) by ISPees .

It's because of stuff like this that I moved to Openweb GOLD.

Seriously though Qwiksilver, does an ISP change make that much of a difference? I have tried a few and they all pretty much the same to me.

Oh great! And tech support cannot mention this?
Well I'll wait for the weekend with crossed fingers.

@saixbot: I'm fairly sure shaping will still load the download's countdown page... I've had shaping issues with MegaUpload from when I got mweb, and the symptoms are different.

I've had this problem with a Cybersmart reseller. Though I don't use file hosting sites much I have problems accessing certian vpn sites as well as a few music and other random ones.

Tried accessing all those sites from a Telkom, WA and Afrihost account. Guess what?

...they all work.

Well OpenWeb gold is has a lower contention ratio and a slightly higher price, you get what you pay for, Mweb and Afrihost are cheap thus having more users

I also had issues with certain links not working the past few weeks on my Mweb connection. I highly doubt that it's a shaping issue, because then they'll have to shape it to like 1 byte/s or something so slow that NetLimiter doesn't even detect it, and the browser just keeps on waiting forever for the page/download to begin.

It was mostly with random file sharing sites like MegaUpload, but I had also had it once with a YouTube video.
Then switching over to my Afrihost account the download immediately started - and I kept my DNS settings EXACTLY the same.

This issue might be related as to why people can't join the HoN (Heroes of Neverth) server on Mweb?

What policy changes have been made wrt rapidshare? Out of interest...

To be honest its been a while and I forget the nuts and bolts, but I remember them implementing a points system - or along those lines - it was also discussed on this forum sometime back. Most of the sites I now use don't even host RS links. I just need a site that allows me to download without complicating things ;)

You do not buy a RS account with unlimited access for x-time.
You now buy "rapids" used as currency for a download.

This is why i joined Plugg.

I can surf anything i want, whenever i want.

So MWeb phoned me today...
After discussions they decided to phone me on Monday.
So I guess it's hurry up & wait :wtf:

Many MWEB users were having issues with some filehosting sites over the past 2 weeks. However, since the weekend upgrade, all sites seem to be working at full speed.
