CipherWave Fusion external hard drive review (MyBroadband)

What drives are they installing in the enclosures (Toshiba, Samsung, Seagate or WD)?

Thanks! That's what I thought. Hopefully we will be able to purchase them online shortly at close to the recommended prices.

Okay... these sound great!

Very good pricing and a 3 year warranty... you have my attention!

As DeadPool said... where can the be gotted from... ?

Having said that, the read speed was surprisingly decent, especially for files smaller than 2GB which it can easily transfer from start to finish at around 80 MB/second.
Wait what??? You do know USB2 is limited to a theoretical max of 60MB/s and in real world usage the usb2 interface is maxed out at +/-50MB/s...I'm just saying, how about NOT use windows copy and use a third party copying tool to "test" HDD speeds like TeraCopy or the likes..and then just for good measure run a HDTune test as well, read and write please. Kthnxbye

Geek Nerd ! :p

I'd wait for a comparison/shoot-out review before buying a Cipherwave. I've replaced two under warranty, the third one is going strong though (with a different hard-drive inside).

I recently purchased a 1TB Toshiba Cipherwave Fusion 301000 external hard drive on Groupon, after reading quite good reviews of the product online.

On receiving the hard drive, I see that the box says 'assembled in South Africa' and the Toshiba branding is just a foil sticker stuck on the box. The website which they suggest you register your product in order to increase your warranty to 3 years is www.cipherwave.co.za/fusion.

Kinda feel like I've been duped. I think this is an issue with Groupon, a lot of the offers seem to be hiked up grey market 'turds' rolled in glitter.

I have emailed http://mytoshiba.co.za/ to find out what the affiliation is, if any…
