Okay ...

So I thought I get one of those new Neotel packages (NeoConnect Home, phone + 5gb on a usb modem) combining the slightly less brick looking phone and some internetz. But if I'm going to do that then I would prefer to go the wireless route. Also have an xbox and motorola defy so ya. I needs wireless. I know .. don't go Neotel, but I don't have a choice really. I used their prime device and its been okay.

Just to report the TP Link MR 3220 does work with the new Neotel Data USB modem jobbies. The one I have is a ZTE AC2736.

The problem is the new Firmware update (TL-MR3220_V1_110418) because it looks for a UIM/SIM setting on the USB modem. It just doesn't work. Once I "updated" the old firmware (TL-MR3220_V1_110125), automatically connected... after an age trying to identify the modem. But I can't have everything, it's up, it works.

Just putting it out there since it took me two weeks of googling to find no solution, not bad for a R399 router and R349x12 months for 5 Gigs (USB modem + Extras).

best of 130 usually around 170-180 ... but sometimes just ... what was the question ping.

Hi cenredash,

I am trying to get my system up and running but I need neotel's APN. I have ns0.neotel.co.za but this does not seem to work. What have you set yours to?

Hi Mike
I think I left it blank, will check tonight.
The number is the important bit #777.
Let me know if this works.

Hi CA,

My settings:
Dial Number:#777
APN:Blank
Username:My Neotel User Name
Password:My Neotel Password

Connect, then Disconnect.

Are my settings any different from yours?

Mike

I have the same settings.
What errors are you getting?
Are you using the newer or older firmware?

You may also want to put the DNS settings as such
41.160.0.36
41.160.0.37
41.160.0.70

What issues are you having with them?

Hi cenredash,

Error: When I click on connect in tp-link ui/network/3g the status goes from Connecting... to Disconnected after a couple of seconds. It never says connected nor does it stay connected. It does identify the modem correctly as a AC27XX.

Firmware: 3.12.8 Build 110125 Rel.43954n.

I have now tried your dns settings as well with no luck. I wish there was some log of sorts that would tell me why the connection is failing.

Thanks for all the help.

Mike

Hi mike
The only other things you can try that I did was set it to 3g only in the network tab.
oh, I also used a usb lead between the modem and the stick. Less interference.
Does the modem work in a laptop or desktop and whats your signal strength?

Did you guys manage to get it working? Bougt the R799 Special and have the same dongle and tp-link router.

Nope just getting the "identifying..." loop...what country did you select when finding settings? Did you change any of the default settings.

EDIT. So managed to get it working using Canada as the country. Set mtu as 1492 and connect as manual. After that connected straight away...but im taking it back to Neotel this morning as the speeds are ****. Max 5Kbs and thats with 5 bars reception set to RevA. (using PC to determine values)

Thanks all. Best of luck N(e)o Go.

After my Vodacom’s Advanced package expired, I lowered my expectations and bought the Neotel special “R799 for 24GB over 12 months”. I need connectivity in the Cape Town CBD so Neotel should be OK – or “Rev A” as they call it.
I’ll post about speed some other time after I’ve conquered Neotel’s signal drops. The drops happen two or three times an hour. On my latest call to Neotel’s call desk, I was told I had to revert my Settings to the factory Default, apply the change, reboot and then set my real Neotel settings.
If I have to do that two or three times per hour, I’ll never get any work done.

Does anybody else share my frustration?
