BlackBerry downtime caused by core switch failure on RIM network

It's still down. This is the third day that I am not able to use my BB other than phone and sms. No browsing, no emails, no streaming, no apps that needs internet connectivity, nada :-(

Core Switch failing without the redundant switch taking over... I say BS..with the ammount of traffic they transfer everyday, there is most probably multiple reduntant networks within their core network.
How Often do they then actually test failovers then(Seems like never)?
Iphone and Android must have had allot of sales then these last 2 day's going into day 3 :-)

Heard on the radio that it is back up...but because of the huge backlog now the service is severely degraded. Can you guys check if your BIS is in fact connected or not?

Yup, you can check, mine says "not connected".

My BIS is connected but no BBM. Email and browsing seems intermittent.

i would think for a massive company like this, venturing into so many IT related industries they would at least have 2 proper back up systems in place! i'm not in IT but the IT guys ive spoken to about other companies mentioned quite a few have 2 identical systems running at the same time at seperate locations, so if 1 goes down it doesnt affect business. the 1 company is BHP..

my emails come through hours late and some that show on my laptop didnt reach my phone at all. facebook on my bb doesnt update and BBM doesnt work at all (received 1 message in the last 20 hours)

On this 3rd day, I still have the 3G+bb indicators displaying as per usual, but absolutely NOTHING works that needs internet connection. Only phone and sms are available.

p.s. It feels funny using my old sony java phone. I do miss my bb :-(

My browsing is fine, but BBM, Whatsapp, Google Maps and email are not working at all.

Two reasons why that might be.

1. You changed your APN to the "internet" one.
2. You are using the Vodafone browswer and therefore bypassing the BIS network

In both cases data charges will apply.

A few apps work but email, bbm, gtalk, msn, whatsapp and a handful apps don't work.. interestingly 4sq and twitter work :p but with timeouts.

ps. seems weird that it was a failover thing.. some places usually have purpose full fail overs to ensure that redundant systems work as expected.

Single point of failure?

My email and internet access is dependent on a server on Europe? So if RIM has a single of point of failure on their service then I need to make a choice to a device thats not dependent on such limitations...

This makes sense (seems elementary) and RIM probably do it. A more plausible explanation is that the whole shemozzle is being engineered by those who are frightened of BB’s superior encryption which they can’t break. Sabotage the system and make it unreliable so that users move to other platforms where the encryption is breakable. Vilify RIM. The plot is working.
