that sucks
first impression are that its quite a decent device
do you have one?

Yeah, had it for just over a month now.
Its not too bad. Wish the modding community was a bit bigger for it.

Which service provider did you get it with?

I got the Optimus Black in the first week of release in SA (end of June I think it was).

It's a great handset, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who wants something more than a standard phone.

Reasons?

LG are not supporting it in any way.
They have still not released the Gingerbread update which Samsung owners have had for over 6 months now and have delayed it's release date twice now.
They disabled the Android VPN option as they can't get it to work with the handset.
They are not importing any accessories for the phone into SA. (I have had to order a screen cover and case from Amazon in the UK)

LG are supposedly making an effort to get a bigger market share in the mobile market in SA but they are off to an absolutely terrible start.

The phone may be cheap for it's spec, but woe to anyone who wants a case/cover/2nd battery/2nd charger or software updates/VPN option.

Well there is a leaked Gingerbread firmware version out. Its VERY beta as the wireless does not work. But i am sure it will get there.
As for accessories i just order it from Expansys.

usually importing accessories works out cheaper

Ive stopped relying on manufacturers to provide updates, since the days of my SE X1
hopefully they get that CM rom made official soon

I also just got this phone on RBM200 and am very impressed (although, admittedly, any Android phone would impress me since I'm coming from a Nokia 6710 Navigator). The RBM deal has got to be the best deal out there. Lack of covers, etc is a bummer though.

BTW I can't get the LG PC Suite IV software to recognise the phone (USB or Bluetooth link) on my Vista laptop. The PC Suite splash screen never goes away although the program runs, but it refuses to recognise the phone. Downloaded the latest drivers and software and still nothing. Also downloaded the On-Screen Phone and Software Updater. The SU recognises the phone and then crashes if I want to anything with it. Any ideas on what's causing the problem (works fine in mass storage mode)? I really want to sort this out before the "imminent" Gingerbread update.

Same here. I flashed a new ROM to get rid of that Red Bull rubbish. It was irritating the hell out of me.
gonna wait till my 7-day period is over before i start messing around

is it possible to go back to the rbm ROM?
what ROM are u using?

If you backup the rom first then i am sure you can go back to it.
I am testing the Cyanogen Rom. A few small bugs but hopefully they will sort them out soon.

cool
lets keep this thread updated with the decent roms
what happened to that other guy on XDA
knzo
i see he discontinued his rom?

got it on the rbm200

Got mine on the rbm200 contract too - early September. I've been very happy with it so far except for battery life - I get about a day's use from mine on average - I got at least two days with my Nokia smartphone.
