APN Settings for ANDROID phone (LG optimus black) on CELLC
The below settings are to enable data (and internet) on an Android phone on the CellC network, in particular on a CellC Redbull mobile bundle (i think redbull is just a phone deal that works through the cellc network, but they do give you free stuff via redbull so perhaps these settings are only for redbull, not too sure).
- Cellphone Network: cellc.
- Handset: LG optimus black (P970).
- Software: Android 2.2
1. Request data settings from network:
On cellc, if you have never had your data settings enabled (ie when you get a new phone) you're supposed to retrieve the network's data settings by dialing *147# and selecting request data settings. You'll get a text message with the settings. To enter these settings into your phone go to Applications > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names. Add a new APN and enter the settings from your text message. In my case, unfortunately the settings did not work (it worked only for the normal internet via the browser but not all the apps, mind you facebook worked, but most vital apps such as the Android Market app and Gmail could not connect to the internet).
If the above does not work, continue with these steps:
2. Reset APN
In my case I attempted adding my data settings a few times and ended up with quite a few APNs. I had to remove all the APNs before entering the 2 correct new ones.
3. Try the following APNs
Create 2 new APNs:
- One for Internet:
NAME: cellc internet
APN:
http://mobile.redbullmobile.co.za
PROXY: 196.031.116.250
PORT: 8080
MCC: 655
MNC: 07
APN Type: default
- One for MMS:
NAME: cellc mms
APN: MMS
MMSC:
http://mms.cmobile.co.za
MMS Proxy:196.031.116.250
MMS Port: 8080
MCC: 655
MNC: 07
APN Type: MMS
Hopefully by now the internet is working on your phone. If not, proceed with the last step:
4. Finally...
If your device internet still does not work then unfortunately you will need to wipe your phone. Yes, this is what I had to do, it was the only way of getting my data services to work (I tried all possible avenues and spent hours on the phone to the 'technical support team' but nobody had a clue what to do, so I was quite chuffed to have worked it out myself).
- Backup everything/anything you want to keep (fortunately mine was a new phone so there was not much on the phone anyway so the factory reset did not make much of a difference to me).
-Wipe your phone: go to Applications > Settings > Privacy > Factory Data Reset.
Once the reset is complete and your phone started up again, repeat step 3 above. Your internet should now work fine and I'd recommend the first thing you do is add a google account to ensure your andriod apps work fine.
- Applications > Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add Account > Google.
Good luck
