WikiLeaks close to collapse

WikiLeaks – whose spectacular publication of classified data shook world capitals and exposed the inner workings of international diplomacy – may be weeks away from collapse, the organization’s leader warned Monday.
 
Each company has given its own explanation for the blockade, expressing some level of concern over the nature of the secret-spilling site. But WikiLeaks supporters often point out that MasterCard and Visa still process payments for fringe groups such as the American KKK or the far-right British National Party and that neither WikiLeaks nor any of its staff have been charged with any crime.

No matter your position on Wikileaks, this is true, and unacceptable. A clear indication of the incestuous relationship between government and big businesses.
 
Now that we are talking about Wikileaks again...

That description from CNN of the cable’s contents is, unsurprisingly, diluted to the point of obfuscation. That cable was released by WikiLeaks in May, 2011, and, as McClatchy put it at the time, “provides evidence that U.S. troops executed at least 10 Iraqi civilians, including a woman in her 70s and a 5-month-old infant, then called in an airstrike to destroy the evidence, during a controversial 2006 incident in the central Iraqi town of Ishaqi.” The U.S. then lied and claimed the civilians were killed by the airstrike. Although this incident had been previously documented by the U.N. special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, the high-profile release of the cable by WikiLeaks generated substantial attention (and disgust) in Iraq, which made it politically unpalatable for the Iraqi government to grant the legal immunity the Obama adminstration was seeking. Indeed, it was widely reported at the time the cable was released that it made it much more difficult for Iraq to allow U.S. troops to remain beyond the deadline under any conditions.

Watched Fair Game http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0977855/ last night. Amazing what government can do to suppress dissent. There is never any accountability. The Bush's administration fraudulent actions iro the Iraq War. It makes me sick when I hear American diplomat lambasting China about it's human rights record and especially when they bring up Tianamen Square. China's human rights abuses are terrible but are nothing compared to crimes committed by the so called good guys. Either America is evil or they are the most incompetent superpower ever. Whatever it is, I look forward to their decline as the sole superpower. A few decades of 2 or 3 major powers - US, China, India(?) might be just what the world needs.
 
Good guys don't commit crimes even though they do.

Didn't you know everyone is a terrorist until proven innocent.
 
I'm not surprised they are close to collapse. Mr. AssAngel's extravagant lifestyle and weird personality is enough to drive anybody away in the end.

Hopefully a more objective and ethical organisation will come along.

The founder seems to have an interesting past himself, and putting himself out there as a target.

The thing is, let's not look at Wikileaks themselves for a second, but at the fact that those companies are happy to support the KKK for example, but bow to pressure to stop people exercising their free choice to use services (that they pay for) to donate to an organization of their choosing (Wikileaks).

Whatever your opinion on Wikileaks, this must surely be a bit troubling?

It's a perspective I can't help but agree with.

Sure it is troubling, but those organisations are complying within the law and simply exercising their free speech rights.
Wikileaks went beyond that. And they have an idiot for a leader.

I disagree with the latter part (although I'll agree that Assange could well be an idiot in many respects), although I'm frankly not sure what to believe about him or not after all the smear campaigns.

It's all about the words you cant use.
See, the KKK haven't released for worldwide viewing any "secrets".

You can't say these words, because they are bad.
You can't say those words, because they are "secret".
etc etc.

All the world is ever trying to achieve, is to SHUT US ALL UP FOR GOOD!
 
Knowledge is power and with power comes responsibility. I do not believe that Wikileaks showed enough responsibility in how they divulged the available information.

Don't get me wrong, the information had to be made public, but it should have been done in a more controlled and responsible matter.
