My line had been dead since Thursday last week and I have been phoning Telkom daily to find out what is going on. Every day I get a different story, area problem, huge backlog, etc. and I can't get them to actually send out a technician to come fix the problem. I am so frustrated as I can not do any work and Telkom is not willing to commit to actually tell me what is up :(

Anything I can do to get this process to speed up and actually get what I am paying for?

Welcome to the world of Telkom in the Lonehill area.

I am also in the same boat as you are, have been without Telcoms since 6 August 2011.

The one piece of advice that I can give you, is when you see a techie on the side of the road, grab them and tell them your plight, they seem to be able to get the ball rolling

Hope you have more success than i have

So i'm not the only one.

It's so frustrating. I have been told that Prevan at the telkom shop in Fourways Crossing can help. Went to him today, so lets see.

I went to the Telkom Shop in Fourways Crossing and was told they do not get involved with faults, and put me on the phone to 10210.

I flagged down a Telkom van in my complex, "we don't handle faults, we only do new line installations"

13 days now...

area problem, huge backlog, etc.

Which is probably true. They are overselling their bandwith so there's nothing you can do. Also no point in having a powerless techie at your house. What do you expect him to do?
You can call the 10210 and ask them to escalate your case. They will probably do some quick'n'dirty fix that gives you temporary more speed for a few days ... and then it's back to the usual.

Line is DEAD... No speed, no dial tone, no nothing...

Well, like I said in the other thread, my line is finally sorted after 1 whole month of no internet. If you go to the telkom shop don't talk to anybody else other than the manager Praven. I'm sure if u nice to him he'll help you out - he seems to know the technicians and area managers, as well as what the issues are in the area.

Good luck.

Many lonehill adsl problems

I too have had so many adsl problems in Lonehill, I eventually asked Telkom to cancel my adsl line, and will go back to Iburst. I had adsl installed in August, have logged 5 Telkom faults, and only twice has a techie come out.

More than 1 Telkom techie have informed me that:
a) Water is seeping into various manholes (even when it has not rained for 2 months in winter)
b) A townhouse complex owner ignored the 1 Telkom manhole, and built their boundary wall over the manhole, then built a swimming pool almost on top of manhole. All legal avenues to enforce access to manhole were in vain, so 3 weeks ago Telkom rerouted cables aroung that 1 complex and installed a new manhole and cables.
c) Since then Telkom and contractors have been ripping out old cables in other streets, and replacing copper.
d) Some Lonehill homes are almost at edge of distance +- 5km from Fourways exchange, and (in ideal cases) would be lucky to get 1 mbps adsl). Lonehill Upper East is generally too far for Adsl. Some houses along Main Road have had cables stolen repeatedly so cant get Adsl.
e) There are many townhouses and businesses in area and contention is extremely high. For my installation they battled to find ONE spare port.
e) Sometime in future they intend installing Fibre closer to the homes and installing a mini Dslam, to solve old copper/water/distance problems. Anyone heard about a PSLAM before ??
f) My adsl connects at 2.2 mbps, slows down to 56 kbps (yes dial-up speed), disconnects randomly between 5 and 50 minutes, and is extremely frustrating. I have replaced internal cabling inside the house myself, checked connections, replaced Filters and Splitters, tried with and without filters and splitters, replaced modem, disconnected telephones, checked MTU and everything I can - to no avail

Suggest you use another technology until they install mini Dslams locally (not sure how we find out when that happens though?)

Day 19 and fixed.

Apparently they redid the Telkom box in my complex and did not reconnect half of the lines in the box. So the tech came out today and said it was his 3rd fix of the day for the same problem...

But talking to Praven seemed to speed up the issue, thank you guys for the advice. <3

haven't been a telkom customer for just over 4 years now...LOL!
