Raikkonen returns to F1

Former world champion Kimi Raikkonen will make his return to Formula One in 2012 after signing a two-year contract with Lotus Renault, the team said on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old Finn won the world championship with Ferrari in 2007 but quit Formula One two years later and switched to rallying.

“I’m looking forward to playing an important role in pushing the team to the very front of the grid,” Raikkonen said in a statement published on the Lotus Renault website.

The team will race under the name Lotus from next season.

Raikkonen said the two years he spent in rallying had been useful for him as a driver, but that he had an overwhelming hunger to return to Formula One.

Should be fun watching Shumi and Kimi fighting it out for top 10 finishes :erm:
 
Lotus will be changing to Caterham right?
Vettels still going to beat them all :D

Although i think Mercedes and Shumi will wake up in 2012
 
I am looking forward to the day that both Mercedes actually wake up and produce a competitive car again....

More cars up front battling for wins will be great... and having Kimi back just adds a bit more class to the whole thing as well.
 
Somehow I knew Robert would not be up to it for 2012, let alone a return for this year.

They are going to have to make huge improvements to the Lotus, however, for Kimmi to do anything remotely impressive with it.

I doubt Lotus and Mercedes would be fighting. Perhaps force India but poor Kimi will be in a GP2 car :p
Time will tell just how much enthusiasm he will lend to the team. He never put in effort when the car wasn't performing it seemed. Perhaps he will be only too happy to be back in F1 and prove me wrong. Can only be good for Lotus though.

Raikkonen = most overrated F1 driver ever.

I'd love it if Schumi could be competitive again...hoping that Mercedes get their act together next year. I think he still has a few more wins up his sleeve.
 
Kimi overrated?! He's one of the best who was always let down by the car he drove.

He's a ballsout driver, with real passion and presence.

It'd be great to have him back.
I may start watching F1 again.

Well he is Finnish and the Fins definitely have guts when it comes to racing on the limit. I just hope Kimi doesn't go back to McLaren with Johnny Walker as one of their biggest sponsors :)

Used to be my favourite driver just a pity he will not be with a better team. F1 might be interesting next year, it was getting very boring this year.
 
Kimi was the fastest driver in F1 imo. Always had terrible luck with mechanical failures :(
