Hi all

Cooler Master (CM) recently released the Silencio range of ATX cases, some additions to the existing Sileo range aimed at quiet computing on a relatively low budget.

The front of the case is smart and clean, and has a magnetic door which reveals 2 x 5.25" bays and a SATA HDD hot swap bay. The buttons and front panel ports are on the top, with 2 x USB2, 1 x USB3 and a card reader, among others. The power and reset buttons have a good quality feel to them and make a nice click sound.

They use sound deadening foam on the side panels, which is marketed at being able to reduce noise, apparently this is debatable though. Besides the foam, they have stuck to making the case as quiet as possible by making sure there is rubber between metal and metal/plastic throughout. The case's feet are rubber. The PSU area at the bottom has four rubber feet to rest the PSU on, the HDD rails are noise reducing, and the 2 x 120mm fans are low noise 800RPM.

Building into the case is a breeze. While slightly smaller inside than the usual CM690's and co., there is still ample room for a larger components and CPU heat sinks. The case information does say CPU heat sinks are limited to 154mm, but I successfully installed a Thermalright HR-02 Macho at 162mm. Large graphics can be installed by removing the lower HDD cage.

In this build, with Antec High Current Gamer 520watt, the PC is silent. Only noise is from the HDD.

I'm amazed at the quality and value for money the CM Silencio 550 offers.

I'd give it 10/10!

Yes, except the Rolls Royce turbines are silent. :D

PC was built for music production.

I am seriously contemplating on getting the exact same case and cooler setup like you, and you are the only one on the internets with a documented and photographed build :)

Coolermaster mentions a maximum of 154mm for the cooler, how did you get the HR-02 Macho to fit? Did you have to cut any of the foam that resides near the cooler's top?

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

No cutting was necessary. The fan just needs to be placed slightly lower. Make sure you get low profile RAM, like Corsair Vengeance 1.5v 1600 LP.

The top ±5mm of the heat sink's measurements are just the heat pipes, which fit into the concave grooves of the sound dampening foam nicely.

Nice case to work with, almost rivals my Corsair Obsidian 650D in quality!

I've been receiving a few PMs from foreigners about this case and compatibility with the Thermalright Macho... A tight fit but it's 100% compatible.

@PostmanPot, I don' mean to hijack your thread but seeing that you have a Coolermaster case you might be able to assist.

I have a Coolermaster Elite 431, the PSU fitting is also located at the bottom with a vent down (facing the ground).
Now should the fan side of my PSU be facing the vent down or into the case?

Sorry if I just confused everyone.:wtf:

Only for the case? What about the cooler?
R454 at Rebeltech or IKonicIT

You want to place the fan side facing the vent so the heat leaves the case.

You want to suck cool air in through the back of the case and out the bottom so the fan should point down to the bottom vent holes.
