As the title says, is it worth spending R300 more on the Vertex III 120GB (R2400) vs the Agility III 120GB (R2100) ?

Using my desktop mainly for internet/e-mail/Lightroom/World of Wargraft, so no heavy stuff (have a console for gaming :D).

The reason I want to get a SSD is to free up the 500GB boot drive for re-use in my NAS.

save the 300 bucks, used agility 3 before did 558mbs and 525mbs write on atto , about the same then the vertex 3, vertex 3 just have better iops

There is also the Adata 511, which is almost identical in price to the Agility and much closer to the Vertex in performance.

Sorry for the reserection but if there is only R100 difference between the two which would you go for? On my way to buy my first SSD.

For R100 more I'd go for the Vertex3.

The main difference is the Synchronous vs Asynchronous NAND chips - Synchronous supports high-speed writing of compressible data while Asynchronous doesn't.

Thanks. I'm really exited to see the difference from an HDD.

The main difference.

Vertex 3 has a 550Mb/s Read and 520Mb/s Write
Agility 3 has a 525Mb/s Read and 500Mb/s Write

Vertex 3 has an IOPS of 60K
Agility 3 has an IOPS of 50K

Vertex 3 box includes a 3.5" bracket

Main difference is syncronous vs asyncronous flash. Misleading figures as sync is up to 60% faster.

i had an agility 3, upgraded to a bigger vertex 3. Everyday use? no difference i see really :/

it loads games 1 second faster on average :P

I don't play games so I can't comment on that part, but as you said, I couldn't notice a difference in Windows and the various Windows applications I use (Eclipse, Netbeans, Word, Chrome, MPC-HC). Even Windows bootup is identical. I didn't use a scientific method however, I just look at how far it gets to finishing the Windows logo at boot :p All of the them get to the same point where the 4 coloured balls fly in a circle, just before changing shape from a ball to one of the 4 Windows logo thingies.

FYI, just bought a agility 3 for R1180.

It's shocking how much I paid not even a year ago (R2100)!
Anyway, you could have gotten it cheaper at Rebeltech (R1040), or maybe the agility4 (R1167), or vertex4 (R1280)

EDIT: Regardless, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy
