Agreed. I think the next big leap will be fuel cells. Or at the very least inductive charging mats everywhere.
 
I always have a Micro USB handy don't need a charger car has USB in it or near a PC no hassle to me at all. I have learned to make allowances for the battery

We have learned to adapt although that is besides the point. I really wish more time and effort would be put into this aspect of modern smartphones. My next purchase will rely heavily on the phone having a decent sized/performing battery. The 1200mAh battery in my desireHD has taught me at least this much ;)
 
Car charger and PC charger are definitely the way to go.

Some phones have sleeves with extra power - sacrifice the size and weight for power.

We also need phone cases with solar panels wrapped around
 
My Nokia Lumia 800 needs a 3000mAh battery for this "No user access" battery phone but is only kitted with a 1450mAh. It only lasts from 06h00 to 14h00 before the low battery shutsdown the network access at 15% forcing the carting of Car Charger and PC USB Charge Lead. In the power aspect the worst smartphone on the market by far.
 
Let's be honest.... they have been talking about better batteries for decades now... and while they have improved modestly over the years, there has not been the leap in battery technology that we were all promised.

I would gladly take a phone twice as thick as my current Samsung Galaxy S2 if I could just have enough power for a full day or two. It sucks as it is.
The Galaxy S was even worse.
 
Man I hope they make a GSM version of the RAZR MAXX. It is the RAZR but a bit thicker and with a massive 3300mAH battery

That's a firmware bug if you have been following. Otherwise it is about average that is one day like the other Android phones!
 
iPhone has very decent battery life, definitely one of the pluses. Usually get a full day out of one charge, no problem.
 
we definitely need more battery power , or change the back cover to be a solar panel
 
It's not just all about the battery! Battery tech has improved drastically over the past few years. I still remember having to carefully discharge the early Nokias which had NiCad. Then NiMH became mainstream and phones would last for days on end.

Now try and imagine what did those batteries back then have to power? A tiny black and white LCD, no GPRS, no MP3 player. My first colour phone was a Nokia 3510 and it's battery lasted only a day (as a result of heavy snake II playing, in COLOUR! Lol).

Now step forwards ~10 years and what do the latest LiPO/Li-ion batteries have to power? Massive 3-inch + Hi-Res brightly backlit screens, HSDPA, 1 Ghz + CPUs, 3D GPUs, WiFi, Bluetooth, video playback, music playback.... You get the picture!! So no, a comparison back to days of old is not substantiated.

Cellphone technology has just moved too fast for battery tech! Like it has been mentioned in this thread, phones like the iPhone last quite a bit longer than most other brands and I think this is purely because of well engineered circuitry.

The battery of my Motorola Defy last a day. But on Friday night I installed the Dropbox client on it. As I was worried it would try and sync a few gigs OTA when I went to bed, I switched off the Data. Low and behold, I realized that only when going to bed on Saturday. But what surprised me most, was the fact that the battery was still at 93%. Ok, I have to admit, I did not browsed the net or read email during the day, but I made more calls than usual, and did play a few games during the day.

I wonder if I must look for an app, which only enables the data every 5 minutes to check for email etc. It might make a huge difference.

The phone has the latest firmware installed, I think that manufactures have forgotten about Ohms Law - The law stating that the direct current flowing in a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference between its ends. It is usually formulated as V = IR, where V is the potential difference, or voltage, I is the current, and R is the resistance of the conductor - and simply that, accordingly if Nokia or any other manufacter of smartphones do not correct this power problem then the phone model is a "Lemon" as the yanks say.
