Publishers under pressure by Amazon to increase margins?

These companies want to sell their e-books at the same price as paper books.

When e-books were still new it was "acceptable" but now Amazon is putting their foot down. Good job Amazon!

If they don't want to sell their books at acceptable prices then they won't make a sale.
 
Accused? Pretty sure its true, and good on them!

When the kindle launched, Amazon had control over pricing. They could sell eBooks at a loss, if they wanted to (ie they pay the publisher more than the consumer pays them). But then Apple negotiated an agreement very favourable to the publishers, and all of them threatened to pull out of the Kindle store unless Amazon relented, which they had to.

So if Amazon gets control again, this would be GOOD for us.

Have to +1 this. How in the 9 hells can they think people are stupid enough to buy e-books at the same price (or often higher) than a printed, bound, shipped copy?

I actually feel that if I buy the printed copy, and the e-book is available, I should get it included! The only costs involved with e-books are the intellectual property, the server costs and a admin fee. The greatest of these should be the intellectual property part, which I already pay for when I buy the printed book.

I'm with Amazon on this one. An e-book should cost only a fraction what a printed book costs.

You see. Now there are those who cannot understand/appreciate why so many people (of all moral standings) support piracy. Piracy is a counterbalance to those who want to make an easy killing by setting prices at levels that suits them and only them.
 
While I am also opposed to the rediculous electronic vs print cost of books through amazon, dont kid yourself that amazon was doing this to just to lower the selling price of the books. If they source cheaper and sell at the same price, their profits go up.

Have to agree here. The publisher in question isn't one of the big Agency publishers who dictate prices to Amazon according to the agency model. This is Amazon strong-arming them for getting a bigger cut of the profit on ebook sales.
