I also saw that phone in the new vodacom book and started to wonder why it is so cheap all of a sudden, MTN also has it for R89pm and you get R100 airtime and 25 sms'es.

I then read about the phone on the internet and saw that it has a huge list of problems, mainly software based, I think that vodacom and MTN just want the phones sold out because no one is buying them.

It's still a brilliant phone, and i'm considering buying it tomorrow may it have problems or not. :o
 
ok for a cheapie

I'M New to Android.Got it on the Mtn R89 deal. The first thing to note is that using an Android phone on a 10 or 100mb deal is just silly so I'm looking for a better data plan.

The Desire S screen struggles in bright sunlight, a problem when on the move, otherwise the screen is excellent.

The battery doesn't last if you use the extra functions a lot like GPS WiFi etc. Like less than a day. The phone gets quite warm when using it in this mode.

The Imbedded apps can't be removed,a real pity, and they transfer data in the background(what data I don't know) even if you never use them, eg Facebook . I never expected that and never would approve of that. So access to your data is an issue on an HTC Androids.

I struggle with using some simple phone functions, eg transfer contacts to sim. Not entirely straightforward

Otherwise it's a good touchphone loads of features for the money so I won't crit it too much. I would have preferred an LG Optimus P970 Black , a few notches better but over twice the price. And an extra slide physical keyboard on a barphone.
 
I would also say it's price dropped because it's "last year's" model compared to the latest twin and quad cores now available.
 
They don't even have stock now.

Have phoned 6 stores in cape town area and none have stock or know when they'll be getting. Not sure
how you put a phone in your booklet if you're not planning on stocking it. -1

yep my wifes anoyed, she being a nokia fan she decided to move to android since it was dirt cheap (and every nokia she wanted had a big pay in) now has to wait for the phone, were told thursday hopefully
 
Just a quick one guys. As with all smartphones, battery life will be a pain. With Android, iphone and some other phones you can easily switch off things like data, wifi,bluetooth etc. These you use when you need to use it. Turn off push notifications, auto sync etc.

Also in most cases, certain apps eat into your battery, so be careful with things like battery saver apps, and things which claim to improve your phone.

Let your battery completely drain after you purchase it, and then charge it until its completely full. Then when its almost drained, charge it for 8 or so hours, put it off and charge for another hour. Switch it on and charge for another hour, and then use as normal. I could be missing a step, so google it. That would calibrate your battery and should improve things. You would only need to do this once.
 
Really hope it is still available in May. I's upgrade-able to ICS (Ice-Cream Sandwich)

UMM that was random :wtf:
but have to disagree with you, best option is to completley run the batery down on first use then only charge it till full no longer , All that other stuff isnt going to have any effect on the batery

How much data does the phone use a day? Download Onavo data manager, you can set the data plan on your phone and restrict certain apps to wifi only. Apparently it also compresses the data.

although it wont have a major effect on battery, as that is normal with most smart phones. The battery calibration will allow your battery to hold charge alot better, and will give you a better and more accurate idea of how your battery is doing.

as said, in most cases keeping the likes of wifi, 3G and the like off, or only used when needed will improve your battery life. You cant expect when you have a phone that can multi task, or run so many applications without the battery taking a hit. Might be a good idea to then get a seperate battery, charge it fully and keep it with you.
