Big blow for car thieves

84000 cars stolen...is that per year? So 230 per day....that's sickening!

They'll just find a solvent that dissolves the microdots.

What will happen when you buy a second hand door for example ? The microdots of the parent vehicle will be on the door. Your vehicle will now have conflicting microdots

RICA come to mind? Any deterrent will be better than none I guess.

People moan if they dont do it, people moan if they do do it.

"Big blow for Car Thieves" :wtf:

This will not reduce vehicle theft in Africa one bit ... This is Africa after all. I cannot imagine any SA car thief thinking twice about ripping of a vehicle just because it is micro-dotted ....

This may help in countries outside of Africa, where the crooked buyers of "redistributed" vehicle actually are afraid of being caught. But here ... no way will it help.

How exactly will this help? by the time they have gotten your car parts you have already had an argument with the insurance company and eventually got paid out and bought your new car...

Big blow for car thieves

Car hijackers and thieves are in for harder times when all new vehicles in SA will be micro-dotted

Why does it need to be mandated? Bet the company that makes this will make a killing from it being compulsory. Meanwhile the rest of us pay higher car prices, while it remains to be seen if this will even help against car theft much ... if it DOES help against car theft, then people would buy it and insurance companies would charge lower premiums if you have it ... there would be no need to make it mandatory. The only reason to make it mandatory is pure corruption - i.e. the company that makes it bribed someone in government to force everyone else to buy his product.

I see huge problems in the future trying to register a second hand car. Government will fail on its end....to much recording would be needed and no system is in place.

Be nice if as much effort was to making all cars roadworthy and drivers licensed and insured etc. etc. moan, moan, mutter, mutter....

Unless they doing checks at borders and ports too this is just gonna lead to an exodus of cars?

What if I buy a Ferarri, Lambo or Bugatti? Still need micro dots? I sure don't hope so... that will just mess with the car's value, can imagine going to auction $20Million car, just to realize a microdot's made that car worthless :P
