So I am trying help my wifes uncle find a car, he wants a 4x4, automatic, diesel with leather seats. Sounds easy right?

Well he is set on the Hilux or possibly the Fortuner, but has had a number of people advise him against them as they are high risk for theft and high jacking.

Now I have also heard this, in fact they tried to steal my mates Fortuner the other day.

Are they as high risk as made out to be? I must say I would personally try steer clear of higher risk 4x4's. But I mean there are tons on the road, how bad can it be?

Anyway, besides these 2, what other options could he look at? Doesn't have to be a double cab, as long as it is a 4x4 I think he will consider it.

Toyota taking you further all thou you don't want to ( toyota se briek problims)

4x4 automatic = not gonna go off road, yes?

The new Ranger is apparently the new class leader (Mazda's new BT50 is also something to look at) so he should definitly consider that over the Hilux. The Navara is also a very good almost SUV like cruiser.

He definitely wants to take it off road, up to Mozambique etc. . He actually lives on a farm so he doesn't want a 'Sandton 4x4' :p

I also like the look of the Navara, but personal preference would be the Ranger. I also like the look of the Amarok.

Why get automatic when doing off reading? Or am I missing something?

Off reading? All he would need for that is a decent pair of bi focals :p

I dunno why but he insists on a auto. I told him a manual would be better but you can't convince some old folk.

I think he should check out the amarok or ranger and forget the Hilux or Fortuner.

Stupid fingers....

Yeah, the Hilux is a bit dated compared to Ranger

Man new ford ranger is super ugly, looks too american suv.... Try the Subaru or Mitsubishi, they both look awesome...

Personally would still go fortuner.

Even though it's high risk? I must be honest it would be my last choice based just on that regardless of how nice it is.

I would have suggested the Tiguan 2.0 TDI Track & Field, or is that too much of a softroader? Otherwise... X-Trail?
