Bah, these okes can't serve beer in a brewery. More likely 2032...

What is more important is when the decoders will be ready for distribution and what the price will be.

PS. I see Port Shepstone has DTT too ;)

So you wouldn't need a set-top box if your tv is able to recieve digital signals? TVs with built in digital tuners.

Dear Staff Writer,

Please note two things:
1) UK is still NOT fully switched over, currently started London last week and there is Newcastle that hasn't started as yet
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch

2) UK is using DVB-T NOT DVB-T2...

It may be important to explain the so-called switch over taking place in the United Kingdom. When London "switched over" - it means that the old analog broadcasts were stopped and terrestrial television is only possible with a TV that is freeview capable or if you purchased a decoder (set top box) to receive the freeview broadcasts. The United Kingdom is using DVB-T2, the same standard that we are using in South Africa. This standard is however allowing some older DVB-T decoders in the UK to still receive some of the channels but not all. The HD channels in the UK is for example only accessible if you have a DVB-T2 capable device.

In the UK there is still 2 areas where analog broadcasts are taking place together with the digital broadcasts and these places are indeed the Tyne Tees area (surrounding New Castle) and Ulster (Northern Island). Both these areas will however complete the switch this year and all terrestrial analog signals will forever disappear from the UK. From the end of this year it is only DVB-T2.

For more info on the UK system look at the following website: http://www.freeview.co.uk

Some info from this website:

Freeview gives you 50 channels and 4 HD channels to play with and features such as series record and Smart TV.

Free from contracts, free from subscriptions. The best bits of telly are free for everyone and free forever.

“We believe that the move to digital broadcasting will deliver much needed economic and social benefits to all citizens by stimulating economic growth and creating employment opportunities,” said Sentech CEO, Setumo Mohapi.

The BS is strong with this one.

i bet the actual quote was sokething like this:

"...the digital signal thing will probably be switched on somewhere around september this year or next year, but it could be longer than that, because the contract for the 'on' button has yet to be finalised . we are committed to getting this digital t-rex television going..."

Some forumites are well informed on UK situation. Are they still paying TV license over there ? Many other countries have done away with this levy as it is so hard to really well check on, to have a system where indeed 95% of users pay. Also here I never seen a TV license inspector.
