Prepaid data deals, getting no love.

That 20Gig deal for R500 feels like it was from a previous era already.

Yep, I was telling my grand kids as I bounced them on my knees that about the same time the space shuttle made its final flight to the museum, the last vodacom pay as you go 20Gig deal was the last technological advancement in many many moons in our country and we never ever saw it again and thats why the poor sods are eating Cabbage soup tonight.
 
Lot of noise, but too short to be remembered what it was, honestly.

With that R500 you could get uncapped 384kbps adsl + voice line + dsl line.

What I do not get with these mobile networks is HOW is it that ADSL can sell R20 per 1GB of data, where R20 gets us less than 20MB of data with mobile networks?

Yes, maybe they cant sell uncapped due to them not having capacity at network towers, but cant they at least make higher caps at affordable rates (8ta 10GB for R199 is really affordable).

But seriously, these networks are ripping us off so much. Hope when people start using VOIP, they feel the pain we feel with their outrageous data pricing.

I hope ICASA can sort them out with their outrageous pricing. I hear SA has the most expensive data + voice mobile networks in Africa.

That would be awesome. Not having to worry about running out of cap and being unable to download patches and play online as much as you want.

Although if we were given enough cap at decent prices that wouldn't even matter. All I need per month to fully keep me happy is 7Gig. If a 7Gig deal would come out at R210 or less on prepaid I'd probably grab it without thinking twice.

Atm you can get like what for R210? 1Gig...

Vodacom kinda has monopoly in the area. There's always Edge and CellC(which requires a large "investment" sum, 8ta if I'm not mistaken don't have a EDGE roaming agreement.

There's no real decent deals out there for when you just want additional cap for that particular week/month. Does MTN have any prepaid deals on atm btw?

R190 for 2gb around there or its R189 for pre paid

I have already moved over my home connection to ADSL.

Looking at moving my mobile connection elsewhere now.
