How will ISPs make money from free ADSL data?

well... imo, everybody loves a freeby :-) so, offering some free stuff, wether it may be free T-shirt or free ADSL data, might attract some easy customers?
At very least, offering some free data, might also make users more forgiving of network failures, or less than optimal service?
Or maybe, instead of looking too obvious at undercutting the rest, they could be charging 'standard/market related' fees, while giving some free data, in effect, users can see the overall cost as more attractive, also luring more customers.
Every business wants more feet through the door, to take up more of your product.
erm... except Eskom of course, who actually advise people to use less of their product :-)

Perhaps the profit margins are still quite good? We've all heard the "unsustainable" swearword... that some ISPs seems to manage to still keep alive with. But if it is considered that our general data costs are still quite above the rest of the world's then maybe costs can still go lower, more ISPs can give some free data, and there will still be a place in the sun for all?
After all, we want, need more people having internet access, and making use of the technology, to everybody's benefit.

I am firm believer in the future of flat rated access. We should pay for access to the network. Traffic should be uncapped. To have capped access is just daft and completely unnecessary.
