Flipboard for Android no longer Galaxy S III exclusive

I saw this yesterday, I love it on my iPad but it's a tiny bit small to read on my Desire :D

I wonder what the legality of this release is? I know it's free software but if it's licensed to only be available on one device then surely this is illegal?
 
Actually it still is, well from the developers and support point of view, the fact that some person decided to dump the application from his S3 does not make it a free for all. Yes you can install it on your phone but if it doesn't work or crash for any reason you will have no leg to stand on.

Its just that in the Android world people can install from alternative sources without the need to root that makes this type of thing the norm.

From untrusted sources? Same reason why they need an AV in the Android World but then I doubt XDA developers wouldn't promote this if it was a dodgy app.

Yeah it's great but it does come with risks though. Given mobile data costs I wouldn't want some rogue app constantly transmitting information.

Well nothing forces you to do it. By default its disabled and you need to override the setting to allow for this.

It's not the same. It renders one article at a time, it flips vertically, sharing items takes more steps etc etc. Easier to use Google Reader IMO.

I found Google Reader to be quite icky myself :D

The vertical flip did take some getting used to, I must say. Mmmm, I'll stick with it since it works well for me (I don't mind about the sharing steps or the single article render) and it looks beautiful on the Flyer. Hopefully they'll do more as the product matures.

Hope so too. It's a lot more effortless on the iPad.
