Hi all

Update on the situation. Gareth (Voldemort on the forums here) from MTN came out to my place and installed a flat panel antennae. The issue now is resolved. I want to thank Gareth for his professional and speedy service.

Also my initial post might seem a bit harsh but I really reached the end of the road with the normal call centre staff. My opinion on MTN changed as well and I want to apologise if what I said came of as an insult. They actually do care about their clients.

So thanks to Gareth and to MTN for the willingness to resolve this.

My pleasure man, glad i could be of assistance :)

Im pushing hard for transmission in this area so watch this space for further improvements.

Glad to hear they helped you out. Hopefully soon we'll some improvements where I am too. They're currently better than Vodacom, but it's still flaky.

Great I am happy for you, I don't know what was your initial problem, could you please shed some light and also what speeds/ signal you are now receiving?

Yup I am also interested in the price of the aerial and the installation costs, I live with my gf most of the time and she stays in Houghton the reception inside the house is edge at the best, it drops to gprs and sometimes nothing. but take 2 steps outside and you on full 3G so I don't think its the area reception... its most likely all the lead in the walls :p:whistle:

Its worth about R1500, but i didnt charge him for it. If your network signal is weak and yagi/Flat panel will work to sort you out as an MTN customer, then by all means log a call with coverage.

I have been logging phoning all the time still waiting for a person to come out!

Pretoria aint my area, but if you pm me your details (ie ref number, cell number etc), then il come out there and set up on of these devices for you- lets check if it will help.

Will it help for normal GSM reception? I am with MTN for years and can never get proper reception at my place. I've been thinking to move to another provider for an alternate experience as my kids never complain about their prepaid. I am also looking to move away from Telkom and ADSL due to the high fixed costs.

im not clued up in the antenna technology, them indoor antennas how exactly would they work say i got a 3G dongle or a tablet with uncapped lite line how will the throughput be boosted..im thinking i get me one of these. and obviously if i log a connectivity call i will have to incur the costs isnt it?

@Wily me- unfortunately you have to meet a certain expenditure criteria to qualify for a cell extender, when it comes to a yagi antenna or a flat panel we do help with one of those, but they will not work on a tablet or certain data cards.
For instance if your have an E173 or an E153 data card and you are not picking up signal i cant really help you much as the sleeve adaptor doesnt work well.
@Starring- the antenna works as an outside boost to the inside signal, in my experience they only work on cards that have an ext port to accomodate a direct metal connection with the card. If you have such a card let me know.
