Powerful “Flame” cyber weapon found

Security experts have discovered a new data-stealing virus dubbed Flame they say has lurked inside thousands of computers across the Middle East for as long as five years as part of a sophisticated cyber warfare campaign.
 
"Both Flame and Stuxnet appear to infect machines by exploiting the same flaw in the Windows operating system and employ a similar way of spreading."

Windows. Yea thats the problem. Nothing to do with the fact that the targets actually use windows. :rolleyes:

You can be sure that if the target was using linux, Apple, or even BeOS the people who wrote these weapons would have made just as sophisticated and effective viruses for that.

Honestly, you are presented with the most intense cyber weapon ever found and the first thing you say is "Windows... there's your problem"?!? :wtf:
 
My bull**** sensors are going off a lil.

The Moscow-based company is controlled by Russian malware researcher Eugene Kaspersky, and gained notoriety in cyber weapons research after solving several mysteries surrounding Stuxnet and Duqu.

AFAIK Symantec were the big decoders of Stuxnet...

They seem to have decoded a lot of the virus's function in very little time. Kudos to them I guess.

This is why I keep windows desktops away from client data. Same reason why Google banned MS machines in their offices after China pwned them.

This reminds me of the conspiracy theory where anti-malware companies are suspected of releasing malware into the wild to justify their existence and boost their bottom line.

I don't really subscribe to that conspiracy theory, but considering that Russia is one of the world's biggest sources of spam and malware, I do not feel comfortable installing any software created in Russia (Kaspersky), even if it is created to combat the digital offspring of their fellow country people.

The world would be better off without having to deal with security flaws in Windows, and any other company that does not take security/quality seriously in their software design (such as Adobe)

the problem with linux is that nobody can agree on a main distribution TO make viruses for :p

the thing with Windows is that it's generic, most of the users in the world use, most programs run with it and it's fairly easy to figure out. it's similar to golfs being the most stolen car, it's not because it's a **** car, it's because it's so easy to maintain that it's easy to steal too.

Windows XP was amazing for me, but i am very disappointed in Vista and 7. XP i could use common sense, these new windows treat you like an idiot and give you nothing but problems
