Good morning people,

Is the Asus G75vw laptop the best out there for gaming at the moment?Reason I'm not going rig route is the hassle to carry everything.Laziness :D.I know upgrading is going to hamper me but that is a risk I'm willing to take.Anything else you guys can recommend?Your input is appreciated.

Well, I've had the G73Jh now for almost 3 years. Haven't had a single issue with the machine and trust me when I say this thing has taken a pounding over the years.
I'd buy the G75 in a heartbeat if I had the cash.
That thing is b-e-e-e-ooootiful :)

Raptor,I know the feeling.I almost collapsed when I saw the G75.Thing is I have the cash and 99% of the people will tell me I must build my own rig cause it will work out cheaper.

I know. Ignore them.
I bought mine at the time for R16K, a comparable custom built gaming rig would have only been about R3K-R4K cheaper, add the Asus international warranty to the mix and the scales start to balance.

I still feel like this machine was the best IT investment I've ever made. It's aging incredibly well and speed wise it still kicks the crap out of most desktops I see being used at work.
The only tip I can give you is to try and order from overseas. You'll save quite a few grand that way and the extra money will easily get you an extra power supply (always a good idea) and a decent 120GB Vertex4 SSD (leaving you with an extra drive for backups etc.)

My main reason for buying this machine was Asus's track record for Notebook quality and the fact that it's almost the only affordable high power gaming notebook out there that doesn't look like a f****g pretentious Christmas tree on acid.

I know ordering from overseas is gonna be cheaper but I'd rather support locally.I'm also thinking towards their warranty.Gonna miss the fact that I can build my own rig but getting something portable and powerful is what I'm looking for.

The GTX670M is almost equal to the GTX460 768MB: http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-670M.72197.0.html

I don't quite believe what RaptorSA said about buying a R16k laptop being comparable with a R12k desktop, unless that included the price of a screen, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and a gaming keyboard + mouse.

The mobile graphics cards are simply nowhere near the desktop ones.

That's pretty much what I meant.
Plus you have to set a price on portability. Mobile graphics doesn't have to be near Desktop GPU's, they just need to fast enough.

Sooooo.....if I do decide to go for a rig should I buy my own or get one from evetech? And seeing as I haven't been in touch with components for the last 6 months,do you have any recommendations on rig plus everything else?

hd7970m is about the performance of a desktop 7870 and the gtx 680m have 1344 cuda cores o.0

but they both come in very expensive laptops :(

sometimes some mid range cards is decent for 1366x768 laptop.

like my hp dv6 has 6550m, plays bf3 medium and diablo 3 maxed, at quite decent fps, just slow hdd holding back :(

Jeesh, that HD7970M is a machine!
Unfortunately you don't get the Alienware M17x R4 in South Africa yet.
In the US it would cost you $1900 (or R14250 excl import tax & VAT, etc.) for the one with the HD7970M.

Kelevra:
I think you'll be able to buy those components separately and build a better system for less.

That rig that you posted uses a VERY expensive motherboard and CPU. It is way more expensive than the Ivy Bridge Z77 (Socket 1155) motherboards & CPU's.

Lastly, that rig is still missing the operating system and a SSD.

Don't get me wrong - Evetech has the best selection of prebuilt PC's in SA! Like this i7 3770k @ 4.6GHz + GTX 670 OC + 60GB SSD @ R18000 is MUCH better value for money!

If you're going for a rig, build it yourself. If you're going for the lappie, I'd rather you stick to the ASUS - its an extremely good buy. 1080p gaming will be possible and most settings will be on Ultra. If you'd like to eliminate any performance problems, Ultra settings at 720p resolution is also a great choice. The main thing is that the laptop will last you quite some time, so its worth the investment from a portability point of view.

asus g75vw is beast......pfft on desktop
It's a beast of a laptop, but it does not come close to what a desktop with an i5 3570k + GTX670OC will offer you.

If portability is important to you, then go for a laptop. You can always go for a very cheap laptop + a high end gaming PC :)
That is how I roll: GTX460's in SLI with my desktop and an old Core2Duo laptop that I use for when I have to travel, etc.
