Hi guys,

How do I use mweb news servers I am still a beginer in adsl. Pleaae don't tell me to google it or search around cause I dont understand the tutorials.

first you need a client that can connect to a news server , you need to download sabnzbd(http://sabnzbd.org/), it does have a build in wizard, install it, it will run a wizard, and ask for details.

Details:
server:news.mweb.co.za
port:119
connections:3
username and password you leave empty

other 2 pages you skip it, not important.

now you need the nzb files to start the download(this is like torrents file).

these files you download from nzbmatrix.com , register a free account.

download the rar file.

use the add nzb file button inside sabnz, then it should start downloading.

remember sabnz runs in your browser.

Thanx guys, used torrents up to now, but this "feels" more structured and safer.:D

For the average downloader, especially a beginner I wouldn't recommend SABnzbd as the web based interface can be off putting to a lot of people. Alt.binz is a better alternative if you are use to using a Bit-torrent client. Personally I use SABnzbd because it fits my needs though.

Also, www.nzbsa.co.za while they are still open.

Thanks for the detailed tips.

How do use alt.binz it seems easier and user freindly. But where must I put in the info on news server and adresses..

Hey guys im messing around with sabnzb now. I have alt binz working fine, but like the idea of the web interface.

strangely i cannot for the life of me connect to the news.mweb.co.za server with sabnzb but have no problems with it in alt.binz or putty. Anyone have any clue?

10061,"Failed to connect: (10060,'timed out')[email protected]:119")

thanks

Make sure that you're using MWEB's DNS servers, otherwise you might get the wrong IP address for news.mweb.co.za.
Also take note that you can only use it with an MWEB connection and not with like a Vodacom/MTN/Afrihost/etc. connection.

Lastly, which could be your problem: they only allow 3 simultaneous connections, so if you already have connections open in grabit/alt.binz, then sabnzbd+ would give you that timeout issue.

Is mweb blocking the news server as it wont connect through alt.binz, I have just moved from afrihost and now mweb.....no go

I've done 800MB today already on the news.mweb.co.za server - so then there is something wrong with your setup.
Make sure that you're using MWEB's DNS server(s)...

I have just connected with telnet to the news server and it worked:
telnet news.mweb.co.za 119

does it make a difference with the DNS settings as I am running through unblock-us so I can watch Netflix?

Yes. Mweb's news server only accepts connections through IPs on its internal network. You will need to add an exception for *.mewb.co.za/*

Hey waz7710

Also a bit of a noob here, having the same issue as you with regards to adding an exception? Any advise for me?
