Apple unveils new MacBook Pro with retina display

MacBook Pro sounds like nice hardware, pity about the OS.

Can you format it and install Windows - not interested in the dual boot solutions ?

Maybe I am a bit dumb but is there anyone that will actually be able to see 2800 x 1800 on a 15" screen?

Why?

If you format it at least install a proper OS like Ubuntu or some other Linux variant.

Yes you notice the difference. It makes everything look like velvet covered in double thick cream :D

The new iPad screen is really impressive so I can imagine that 2800x1800 is going to look epic too.

You thinking Windows when it comes to resolution, where higher DPI = smaller icons & text, rather think game UI's instead.

Example: Playing Battlefield 2 on 1024x768 vs 1920x1080 or as in this case 2800x1500. The text stay the same size they just become clearer and easier to read.

You can but its not advisable.

Best to still keep a small OSX partition to enable updates of the sw bios (EFI) & Bootcamp driver pack for Windows.

I don't use any software that would run on those.

You will be surprised at what you can run lately. I for one have Steam & Games, Office + Photoshop running in Ubuntu with no problems :)

But what is the big deal here--13" still has the yuk resolution--and a HDD. not even hybrid. For this prices, Thinkpad X230 seems to be a much better buy IMHO.
But, hey this a Mac, aint it?

MacBook Pro has everything I want in 2 different machines.. And the "Regular" MBP doesn't even get 1920x1080 display or SSD :p

fml Apple! WHY?!

'Retina Display' being abused. A 15" MBP would need about twice the resolution of a new iPad to maintain the sort of PPI that originally gave us the name Retina Display. And the new iPad is almost a third lower in PPI than the iPhone 4.

The Air looks nice. I love my small form factor lappies and have been really tempted to get an Air. And yes, I do understand its limitations but as a PHP developer my 4yr old Aspire One still works fine.
