Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is coming “soon”

Will the SGS3 support this? New to Android and lazy to research :p.

Good news nonetheless :D.

So 4.1 is going to be released before 4.0 gets 10% percent uptake? They need to fix this

Good chance for Samsung to make the Galaxy S 4 based on this OS.

But seriously, it is probably only a minor update with a few tweaks here and there and if Samsung don't release this for the GS2 based off the fact that it can't handle it (Sammy's favorite excuse), I'm going to be angry because this phone is still better than most Android phones on the market.

Makes me all warm and fuzzy that I got my Nexus from Google last week :) No waiting for Samsung to decide if we are worth of an upgrade or not.

The GS2 is basically the same internals as the Galaxy Nexus (same CPU at least, few other differences, mainly the 720HD screen which the S3 and Nexus share) - so unless there is a dependence on that screen res, I don't see why it can't come to the S2.

The Nexus has the OMAP processor with the PowerVR SGX540 and the Galaxy S2 has the Exoyns Chip {Samsung Own Brand} with the Mali 400. That said the galaxy S2 is still the most popular android in existence and the only android phone {as far as I know} with over 10% of the android market, even if Samsung don't update their will almost certainly be a couple of JB Roms and probably even some Key Lime Pie Roms after that.

Also I wouldn't feel so bad if Samsung didn't update I got my Galaxy S2 last September with 2.3.3 on it which got updated to 2.3.4 {or 2.3.5} which got updated to 4.0.3 so I don't mind particularly if Samsung don't update past this point {through I am probably in the minority}

My Galaxy S1 is just about hanging in there! ICS works smoothly enough, let's hope we can get Jelly Bean too.

Agree. Problem lies at two places: (1) OEM's that want to add their own rubbish code to Android to differentiate their offerings; and (2) with the Networks that must test and approve the code to go onto their networks. Google has no control over these two steps, unlike Apple that controls the whole process so when they release an update they just do it. That is a positive side of their highly controlled ecosystem.

I wish Google would create a more controlled ecosystem of their own (with Motorola) and then allow other OEM's to use Android as they see fit. The Google ecosystem will then function like Apple's with its own devices made by Motorola ... ie no more Nexus products made by other OEM's. Any Android update will then be immediately available to those inside Google's ecosystem. Other OEM's may not like it but they are anyway free to use whatever OS they prefer.

I concur!

Motorola = motoblur.

Will definitely be the end of Android. :p

No more motoblur needed as it will have a "Made by Google" label on it.

Android will never end as long as Google backs it. It will be easy for Google to add exclusive features to Android that we can't live without.
