41 Megapixel Nokia 808 PureView hits South Africa

Good luck posting those 11MB pictures to your Social Media accounts. Hope it comes with LOTS of bandwidth :D

It uses the extra resolution for zooming or something, then scales the pics down to normal resolutions. Ask Clintx if he ever comes back. He had a whole hive of bees in his bonnet about it.

?11? My DSLR does that, we talking 100 MB here.

Well that is if you use native, but most people will use the 5 mp setting.

Still the problem with the phone lies with the dead OS and the beyond crappy display.

The end result is not a 41MP photo....
It was pretty thoroughly discussed when the PureView was announced
 
Vodacom must love it, some plonker is going to take a picture have the camera set to 41MB pixels and upload it. Symbian OS is that still going, Nokia are they still going.

That's alright but you should consider that shooting in full resolution takes longer - 8MP PureView photos are snapped in under a second, while 38MP shots might take 2-3 seconds. Then there's the file size - 8MP shots clock in at 2-3MB, while 38MP ones are 10-11MB, which is an important consideration if you're going to be sharing those photos or posting them online.

I'm glad they've released it here and I really want one but at R7,999, it's too expensive, not really value for money.
I can get a much better phone for that amount, though I really do want a good camera phone.
If it was R5999 I wouldn't hesitate!
(Anyone know offhand how much the Galaxy 3 is, for comparison?)

EDIT: The Galaxy SIII has a recommended retail price of R7 999 and is a far better phone...

Btw.. it sells in India, brand new, with warranty for Rs34000.. or R5250..Thanks Nokia SA, what genius!
 
If you're into photography rather spend that amount of bucks on a decent SLR.
 
People keep gasping about every extra MB. The constraint in quality is not the size of the sensor, but the aperture of the lens. In the case of cell phones they are minute, compared to proper SLR's.
 
Looks like Nokia Belle Feature Pack 2 might be last update for Symbian, so what the point :(

No mobile phone camera lens is going to have the same image quality as even the cheapest SLR lens.
When it comes to image quality the glass (lenses) is more important than the image sensor.
