Windows 8 in South Africa launch uncertainty

Tried WIndows 8, didn't like it...

Staying with Windows 7.

Which version did you try? The Developer Preview or the release candidate? The developer preview was sucky but the release candidate was great. After using it for a while I'm definitely upgrading to Windows 8 when it gets released.

It seems very unlikely that we won't be supported as the marketplace supports us.

Used both.

Seeing as Microsoft TechEd was cancelled this year (normally August, September) and will happen early next year, I have a feeling they'll probably release it around the holiday times (November, December) so people would've had time to play with it in its retail form by then.

+1

Windows 8 is the fastest windows release I have ever used.

I am not too keen on Windows 8, I felt Windows 7 was much faster than Windows 8 on my laptop, I was using the consumer preview 64 Bit.

I am going to give Windows 8 another shot on my laptop. One thing I know for sure is I do not like the Metro User Interface, I hope Microsoft will have an option of disabling it for good.

We can all dream.

You can try classic shell (http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/) or start 8 (http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/)

Metro is great for touch screens, however, it does not really bother me on my desktop as i rarely made use of the start menu anyway

Note to OP: Who writes these headlines? Do they have any knowledge of the way the real world works? "in SA launch uncertainty" is ridiculous - the launch date for Windows 8 has not been announced in SA or the USA or anywhere else on the planet. it is not "uncertain", just "not yet announced". Neither is it anywhere else.

Sub-editor: Your slip is showing. As is your animus.

I know someone still running Vista. Not sure if his medical aid will pay for his psychiatric treatment though.
