Intel looks for alternatives to passwords

Passwords are basically useless. Not sure what other options there are though.
 
I will stick with passwords for very sensitive info. But this device does sound very cool.

How are they useless exactly? I'm genuinely interested as I have a bit of an interest in cryptography and security and I was under the impression that they don't really have a viable alternative and still manage to do a pretty good job of keeping things locked up.
