It looks like the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo Mobile has something amazing in the making. The company’s CEO Chen Mingyong teased the Oppo Find 5 quad-core flagship with 1080p display, sporting the mind-blowing pixel density of 441ppi.

Such pixel density puts the upcoming 5" device in an entirely different league from the current crop of top shelf smartphones. A 441ppi pixel density is roughly100ppi better than the next best smartphone and a cool 115ppi better than the Apple iPhone 5.

The rest of the Oppo Find 5 rumored specs include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, 2GB of RAM, 12MP camera, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and a 2500mAh battery.

The Oppo Find 5 appears a lot like that rumored 5 incher from HTC. As always, we'll keep track on both.

Woah, this is a beast of a phone!

There is a good reason why both the S3 and iphone 5 have ~326 dpi and its not because they can't do better. Above that there is near zero improvement in clarity while costs and power usage increase.

Naturally if you want to sell a phone based on specs that you need all the dpi you can get.

It's astonishing that we've reached this point already. Very intrigued to know what a difference it makes, if >retina level is noticeable to the naked eye.

Oppo Find 5 has a FullHD 5-inch screen, pics and specs emerge

The Oppo Find 5 is no stranger to us, we've already heard the rumors. And this time around they seem to be confirmed to the letter.

The Oppo Find 5 has a 5-inch screen of FullHD resolution with a narrow 3mm bezel. It runs on 1.5Ghz Qualcomm's APQ8064 quad-core chipset with 2GB RAM. The aluminum unibody has a thickness of merely 6.9mm and the 12MP camera with a Sony backlit sensor allegedly doesn't bulge at all.

But that's not all, as there is also a nice and hefty 2500mAh battery inside to power the thing. Oh, and there's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean pre-installed.

A 5-inch screen with Full HD resolution, now that does ring some bells, doesn't it? The recently introduced HTC J has similar specs but it's for Japan only.

The Oppo Find 5 will be available in 16GB and 32GB versions, priced at 3000 Chinese yuan (about US$475) and 3300 Chinese yuan (about US$520) respectively. Those are unsubsidized prices, but the Oppo Find 5 is reportedly coming with support for GSM and UMTS (with HSPA) networks, so it's compatible with China Unicom's network. This is also good news if you are planning to get one imported to Europe or America, as there are plenty of carriers to support those standards there.
I bet we'll be seeing even more devices with such monstrous screens come out soon.

Oppo Find 5 full spec sheet and price revealed

The Oppo Find 5 has been making waves recently with rumors of a 5-inch 1080p display powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm APQ8064 processor. Those rumors have since been confirmed by Oppo, as well as the contract-free price of R4,375.24 ($499.00.)

The 5-inch FullHD display results in an impressive 441 ppi, and has Gorilla Glass 2 for extra protection on top. It comes with 16 GB of internal storage (whether the 32 GB model will be sold Stateside remains to be seen), and 2 GB of RAM.
All the right connectivity features are there as well, including Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct. The 2500 mAh battery has also been confirmed, as is the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS.
Look for the Oppo Find 5 in the US from AT&T and T-Mobile not long after its official launch event in Beijing next week.

Oppo Find 5 arrives at the office, we gawk at its 1080p screen

It’s pretty clear that 2013 is the year of the 5” 1080p phones and the Oppo Find 5, which just arrived at our office, is part of the zodiac. 2012 was the year of quad-core processors, especially the Snapdragon S4 Pro chips towards its end, and the Find 5 has that too.

It’s not a matter of choice – with nearly 2 million pixels on the screen, the chipset will have to offer a lot in terms of both CPU and GPU power to make for a smooth experience. The Project Butter-enabled Android 4.1 Jelly Bean also helps.

The Oppo Find 5 is only the second phone with a 5” 1080p screen to come to our office. The difference in image quality is noticeable, but the gains aren’t nearly as big as when phones went from WVGA to 720p.

Anyway, viewing angles, contrast and colors all look pretty good. It’s a very impressive screen overall, though if you push the bottom of the screen you get the rippling effect you get when you push on LCDs, even when you’re pushing below the capacitive keys. Other than that, the phone feels well put together.

With such a big screen, the Find 5 is a tall but not too wide (given its screen size) – 141.8 x 68.8mm. It’s the same size as the Sony Xperia Z and HTC DROID DNA give or take a few millimeters. It’s 8.9mm thick, thinner than the DROID DNA, but it’s heavier at 165g. Still, it has a bigger battery than both of these (2,500mAh) and we’ve seen smaller, heavier phones. It’s certainly not too bad.

The front of the phone is supported by a steel frame (sturdy, but adds to the weight) and the back is covered in plastic with soft touch finish. Here lives a 13MP F/2.2 camera that shoots 1080p video and 120fps VGA slow-mo clips. It does HDR in both still and video modes, so the Sony Xperia Z isn’t the only one.

The camera also does burst shot in still photo mode (100 photos in 5 seconds Oppo claims) and can do 120fps recording at VGA resolution, both for slow-motion clips and for HFR clips that play back at 120fps (the jury is still out on whether or not that’s better than the 720p@60fps mode in the Samsung Galaxy Camera).

Anyway, the Oppo Find 5 uses a custom interface that borrows from popular launchers from other makers. You can see it action in the video:

Except that HTC already beat them to the punch; and there's a whole crop of 1080p phones on their way now. Galaxy S4 is almost a dead cert for fHD and it should give a smooth enough performance if they use the octo core chips in there. Surely though, surely surely surely we cannot have a need for a screen resolution higher than 440ppi after this point? Can we all agree that that's enough?

Has the exact same limitations of the Nexus 4: No OTG, No SD Slot & only 16gb (13gb usable)... I'll wait for the Xperia Z

Such stupid limitations.

Going big on features, but leaving these off? WTF?

I've got an S3- upgrade needs LOADS of storage, 5"(redundant'F')HD screen, hugemungous battery and good after market support- cases, batteries etc.

The S3 will last me a while- looking forward to a replacement though! :D
