So, while you guys argue about the size and the price and whatever else, I got the Phone, cut my sim even smaller, synced all my iPhone 4 stuff, can call and wifi and all, but 3G kicks in for 5 mins after inserting the sim, and then drops!
Anybody connected enough to get Vodacom to get the iPhone 5 settings loaded?

Some guy sitting next to me today, paid 12k for his shiny new iphone, says to me wow what phone have you got? I said with pride and a smile, the galaxy S3 muuuhahahah

Sorry for sounding ignorant, but what is LTE and where do I find it?

Thanks, but my phone does not come up with the LTE option, the model is IPhone 5 CDMA, if that means anything.

You twit. You should have gotten the GSM version instead, at least that one features quad-band GSM and HSDPA radios to make it work all around the world.

Had the same prob. You need to switch off LTE.

Just checked, my LTE is enabled, it has no affect on 3G.

Verizon CDMA model should work fine in SA, it actually has a dual mode CDMA/GSM radio and the GSM portion is supplied unlocked.

CDMA model A1429: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)

OP, try another sim?

Thanks, will try another sim, just strange that the 3G works fine for a while after I slide the sim in, and then drops, -gives me the feeling the network disconnects me.

I think the powers that be, heard me, my phone started working propperly an hour ago, and has not dropped 3G since, -I love technology and the age we live in!!

Now, now, no need to start calling people twits. Especially since you didn't check your facts...

I have the same problem, 3G only work every now and then. Have 2 iPhones 5's for me & wife. First thought it was because I restored a backup, but then did a clean start and still the 3G disappears after a few minutes. Any idea? Mine was bought in Hong Kong, so it is the GSM version and I can only see a 3G toggle under settings, no LTE off setting?

Mine stopped working again too!
Got a new sim, same thing! Please! We need a solution!

Vodacom won't help you until THEY officially release the phone - they'll tell you it's untested on their network and they can't help you until they've finished testing

Lol! I love how people import the tech not knowing if it will be a sustainable entity at the time? Its like your parents used to tell you- no means no!;)
At least for the time being of course.

The tech works perfectly with a MTN sim card (cut with scissors). The official Vodacom card works for a few minutes after fiddling with settings, changing API setting, removing and reinserting sim, rebooting etc.

Got my wife's phone to work for couple of hours then lost data connection again.

Just to be clear, no data working, not edge, gprs or 3G. Does anyone have have a Vodacom nano sim working on a iPhone 5? It is the A1429 GSM model sold in Hong Kong UK etc.

My suspicion is that your phone has received a carrier update with the foreign sim still in.

Two Apple help pages for carrier setting resets

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4839

My first thought though would be to do a restore in iTunes with your Vodacom sim in the phone. The software restore will clear any existing carrier settings and then hopefully install the Voda one when the phone activates after the restore.

I have same problem with my 2 Iphone 5's on Vodacom nanosim (one from Hong Kong and the other the UK, both A1429 models) I've tried Iphone configuration tool and changed APN settings to "internet" and it still does not help. It's interesting that it works flawlessly on MTN so I now assume that Vodacom will have to push a carrier update to modify the ipcc file.

The dropout of a data connection on Vodacom appears to happen when there is a handover change from one cell tower to another.

Damn it looks like the only fix at the moment for us impatient ones is to use MTN.

Tried factory restore,DFU restore, setup as a new phone-same problem:mad:
