Windows Store in South Africa

Good. Google Play store, Nokia, Windows etc have done this.

and still nothing from apple?

American Dollah is the standard currency in Africa.
Didn't you know? it will soon be the only currency on earth but I would rather have a Yuan.

This has drawn criticism from video game developers such as Minecraft creator Markus Persson and id Software (Doom, Quake) founder John Carmack who are concerned about Microsoft controlling which apps get published.
This is completely retarded.
Just because there is now an app store doesn't mean you suddenly can't install stuff the regular way...

So can you side load apps on WP8?

Well I'm talking about tradition Windows applications and games like Minecraft, Doom, Quake, Photoshop etc etc etc. Those aren't suddenly dissapearing. You can install those fine.
You can side-load the new WinRT apps too. This is how I send beta apps to clients to test.

I'm pretty exited about a one-stop software store for Windows. I can probably on one hand count the amount of software I have bought for Windows, with Android I have bought lots of apps because it is so painless (click buy> install).

Just to be clear: this is for the traditional windows as well right, not just RT?

That's not what they said at all. Have added the "WinRT" qualifier for clarity.

I hope its not like the dead empty SA Apple store..

As I understand it (confirmed today by an evangelist at TechDays answering people's questions), you will not be able to install non-RT apps on RT devices, nor sideload RT apps on RT devices. Is that right?

This is the big reason Minecraft would need to get certified and why Notch told Microsoft he wasn't interested.

localised? that means ZA flavour to the App store, or like iStore, many apps will not be available to ZA users?

Correction: I discovered a TechNet article that explains that apps can be sideloaded in Windows RT, but it requires a sideloading key. A product aimed at business software developers, I suspect.

It'll be interesting to find out what's involved in getting a sideloading key.

In fairness: the Apple App Store only lacks games because of a decision to comply with FPB [-]regulations[/-] [-]legislation[/-] legal mumbojumbo.

I *think* localised means SA developers can submit apps (and get paid for them) and SA consumers can buy apps in Rand. If the Xbox Live situation is anything to go by, though, Microsoft complies with the FPB stuff as well, which means not all games will be sold in the SA store (unlike Apple, though, the whole category will hopefully not be blanket-yanked).

Don't have my Win8 tablet with me now, but I'll try to check tonight or tomorrow (unless roguecode can weigh in on this?)

I'm gonna guess you need to be a paid developer.
