Windows 8: It's great, but I'm moving back to Windows 7

I am planing to return to Windows 7 as well. (Planed and scheduled for the weekend)

Main reasons:
Windows 8 Hate old games.
"Metro" and Desktop do not talk to each other <-- this makes it feel as if you running 2 OS's on one PC.

You don't have to use the new apps? I don't see any reason to use Windows 7 unless you really liked the old start menu.

I must agree that the apps are useless, but there are just too many other features i find useful on windows 8 that windows 7 can never do.

-The new ribbons in the file explorer, maybe im just used to working with office2010 and the new ribbons help with some things.
-The picture password login(Man this is so much cooler than typing your password, even using the mouse)
-The new updated microsoft games caught my eye (sure solitaire might not be the best but hey they updated them and every now and then when I'm bored i play pinball or mahjong)
-Personally I love the fact that you can have several apps open in the metro interface and another set of apps running on the desktop.
-The new start screen makes it so easy for me to find all the icons I hate keeping on my desktop, and it makes them look 'flashy' if you want to call it that.
-I don't see any performance difference from win7 in my Games like BF3 etc..

There is only one problem I have so far and that is I cannot get my skillsoft offline course manager working but they said it should be fixed sometime soon.

I don't really use many of the apps windows came bundled with but I still think its great to have the option of metro should you find it appealing like I do. I have had a 'plain', 'standard' looking windows since windows 95. I am actually really happy for this change and cannot wait to get the smart phone and tablets.

too late for anti windows 8 circle jerk ?

Which games ran on Windows 7 and not 8?

I'm pretty sure there is a way to make them run even if they don't at first.

Aliens vs Predator
Dragon Age
Two Worlds
Some like Homeworld 2 I got to work but it plays with half the screen not resizing properly. See below:

Just to name a few....

And yes I have tried all types of suggestions from forums. From installing .net 3.5 to installing DirectX updater <-- this fixed Two worlds but broke AVP.

Oh and trust me I tried compatibility mode and even used the wizard. This ended in raising bug reports...

if I was Windows 8 I'd also refuse to run those ancient games

LOL

Can not help it, I find Old games more FUN :)

Actually I did not Finish Two Worlds 2 yet so tried to run it, on Saturday I wanted to try a Star Wars mod for Homeworld 2 and Aliens vs Preditor was thanks to Flowerhat that wanted to play MP

I did not look to far but the few that created Dead Ends told me maybe I should go back and reinstall 8 when its more mature.

I am also seriously considering to revert back to Windows 7.

This weekend my son had trouble logging into his pc. It kept saying his password is incorrect. I logged in into his machine with my user which is an administrator, thinking that I can quickly reset his password.

I could not find a place to reset his password. Not in the user control panel (control panel app) or the metro interface user control panel. In the end it turned out to be that the internet connection was down. This live user accounts is not a bright idea for logging locally into your pc.

You can setup your Windows 8 installation with a local account, which I did, but understand why you would want to use a live account.

I fully agree - the apps are pretty useless, and I don't like the fact that you have to sign in with a live account... and those tiles don't work under admin mode. Yes, I understand they don't want you to use the machine in admin mode... but to hell with that, I prefer it! There are certain things about the ribbon menu's in explorer that are also pretty crappy... I like Windows 8, but at this point I may revert back to windows 7 when Win8 RP runs out or sooner.
