Telkom board gets new non-executive directors

So they appoint new board members who have experience in tourism, mining, investments and ... gambling?

Since when do they think that people without telecommunications knowledge or experience can sort out Telkom? No wonder they are going down!

Most boards are made up of business people from all walks of life, intentionally so. Knowledge of the industry is not always a pre-requisite for board appointment.

I'm not defending the make-up of their board here because I don't know much about all of the new board members, I'm simply correcting an assumption that board members should be experts in the company's business...

The problem doesn't lie in board member credentials - especially for non-executive members - but rather whether the DoC is pulling the strings.

Sense, the elders post.

I wonder, is it from an egotistical point of view that government holds onto telkom. Yes we know the shareholding structure etc, etc, Why cant or wont the DoC change tack. They cannot "fix" telkom, just let it go and let people run it who actually know what they doing.

Fellas, as a South African I get embarrassed having to explain to overseas guests about telkom and why our crappy internet is the way it is. Its shameful. You cannot seperate the telkom issue from government.
