Hi guys,

I had enough of this crap with Afrihost.

I'm moving back to MWeb, making use of the 2 month free promotion.

The problem is I need to move my ADSL line back to Telkom first. Then apply for the 2month ADSL free promotion before bundling it again.

Any idea how to go about? without losing my ADSL connection....

That's why you never give your line to your ISP.

Just send Afrihost your cancellation. They'll do the rest.

Mweb is saying that the 2 month free promotion only applies to my ADSL Access and that I need to move the line back to Telkom first, before they then can bundle it for me or move my line.

Just a word of caution. Monitor and double check the process closely. I did the same move a long time ago between ISP's and Telkom ended charging me with a new line installation. Had to go through the pain of going to a Telkom shop and explain the whole story to them to get a refund.

Now I just keep my line with Telkom and pay for data only. These bundle deals a great in theory but the little saving is not worth the potential admin problems and the freedom of signing up/jumping ship to any ISP you want.

Doesn't Afrihost allow you to do just the line rental with them? With Axxess you can have your ADSL line with them and get your data from anywhere.

Not as far as I know...seems like Axxess and Openweb are taking full advantage of Afrihost bad ADSL service.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Axxess == Afrihost?

@ KALSTER, yes, they do allow it. Afrihost manages my line, but whenever I run out of Cap I switch to my WA account before topping up.

Yep, Axxess = Afrihost. Axxess is having the same problems that Afrihost is having, so they won't be gaining customers. If anything, Openweb seems to be making the most of this little saga by coming up with specials that speak directly to the problems people have been having. I just wonder about their IS throttling policy, because I got throttled pretty quickly while Axxess was still with IS.

I started out over there with their VPN accounts and left after a very bad experience. Might give them a visit if these problems don't get sorted soon. Downloads currently running at less than half speed and an Origin update runs at 14kBps for a 1.8GB update on a 1Mbps account. :(

If I were you, I'd keep the ADSL line with Telkom. You're probably gonna pay around R15 more to keep it with them as opposed to having it bundled with MWEB. I cancelled my Cybersmart account at the beginning of this month and signed up with MWEB, also to take advantage of the 2 month free promo. Although I'm still on Cybersmart's books, it's not costing me any more to be with MWEB for the next 2 months, and CS still holds my ADSL line until end November. I'll only start paying for the MWEB service in January, and CS will cease entirely at the end of November, with my line going back to Telkom. You could do the same with your Afrihost account. Get them to migrate your line to Telkom and keep it there, that way you can move ISP's whenever you wish, and you can avoid the hassels of getting your line migrated. You can still use MWEB as your ISP as of now, even with your line still being held at Afrihost. It's worth paying the little bit extra every month to have the freedom of choice in the future.

The day I transferred my 10mb Telkom line to AH, my router speed dropped by +-30%. Is it possible that AH are throttling their managed lines? or is it that Telkom doing this to "non" Telkom lines?
Would like your comments

Funny you mention that. My attanable rate was 8800 with telkom, when it moved to afrihost it dropped to 4400. I don't really care since I just pay for a 2mb line

Well, I have my line with Axxess now and the Gamer account at OpenWeb with no issues at all. That's R149 for the line at Axxess and R169 for the uncapped Gamer account at Openweb. Can't get a better bargain than that and with the best performance to boot, as far as I can tell.

Sorry to see the OP is wanting to move away. Obviously we are sad that this is the case, we have had more than our fair share of technical issues in the last month, but we are well on the way to overcoming them and achieving our goals for the new MTN network.

You can cancel your products at any time in the ClientZone, and your ADSL line will be moved back to Telkom at the end of the month (best to do this well before the 25th to avoid billing issues)

PM me at any time if you have any queries :)
