SMS price debate: MTN, Vodacom hit back at Cell C

Would this argument between Cell C and the others, explain why from Cell C I can't sms Vodacom numbers today.

Scum bags.

Recently, TEAM SCUMEEL have OUT-STUPIFIED themselves.

I guess when you start getting desperate you start talking k@K.

It blows me apart on how they (VODASCUM & EMptyN) can now justify a sms termination rate. WTF.

I see ICASA hiding in their stationery draws. They not dare hurt the powers that be!

From what i read here AKC wants to enable spam and make money from that :wtf:
And now he is playing the victim .
May be i missed some thing here .

"The basis for charging bulk SMS was to ensure that the cost and value of accessing a customer base on an asymmetrical basis, for commercial purposes, could be appropriately recouped. MTN could also ensure that through this mechanism spam to its customers could be prevented.

However, now, Cell C appears to also want to terminate bulk SMS traffic for free, and so free-ride on MTN’s network and customer investmen"

I don't see how this "enables" SPAM as it pretty much comes through now directly from VC/MTN/etc. They don't do much to vet messages judging by the junk I keep getting. Anyhow how does sending from one network to another actually change this? I think they must just enforce visible numbers that can be traced for the source and it will be fine.

What it will do in REDUCE the cost of smses as the operators currently can keep the price at the point they choose to bulk suppliers due to the "gentlemens' agreement" a.k.a. collusion. For example if the termination rate is 1c Cell C can charge say 5c to send messages and the client can have one source address which is easier to track.

Where is ICASA's voice in all of this .. or are they asleep in their offices as usual?

I think in the end this fight is good, take it up for regulation.. get the real cost of SMS out there and bam, everyone of them gets their hands burnt as a result. SMSes costs in SA and just about every country is severely over priced.(which is why whatsapp etc has as many users with smartphones)

Sometimes I wonder about these behind-closed-doors-gentlemens-agreements are what get the customer screwed, and kill competition.

There is no honour amongst thieves!

Fcking mafia.

ICASA is too busy being black to do their job.

Why don't you read the article?

Makes perfect sense when it's explained. No one loses out. Not even the customers.
