Ok, so just got a Mweb Abuse Notification number 2 which reads as follows: Your current ADSL usage pattern shows repeated instances of continuous bulk downloads over prolonged periods. My laptop is on 24/7 and downloading, after the first warning I set a limit on my download speed to half the speed (still 24/7) which clearly did not help. I now want to set up a scheduler so that it will only download as follows: From 17:00 - 22:00 at half speed and from 22:00 to 07:00 at full speed and then stop it between 07:00 and 17:00. Will the be acceptable for MWEB?

Hi

I suggest that you reply to the warning mail you have received and ask our abuse guys, they are the best people to confirm this with.

Change your service provider problem solved sellng uncapped should simply mean uncapped.....do not and will never have mweb..

didn't know Mweb does this... :(

Same here. I still maintain that if they ever pull anything like that on me, I'm gone. I might be anyway if my speeds don't get back to pre-October levels.

wow! the moment i get a message like that i'm leaving!
how can you have an uncapped service that has conditions to it?

+ i have my mweb email listed and i never check it in anycase lol

MWeb are a good ISP but the way they implement their FUP is bull****.

I got banned because of these notices and told it is a lifetime ban (linked to number).

I have a house with 3 kids (2 teenagers). They all love YouTube. Whole reason I went uncapped. It became a pain to monitor the whole house.
So kids + me with my downloads resulted in an eventual ban.

Don't bother asking them for the patterns of your download behaviour when you get your warnings. They can't (or won't) tell you. I tried so I knew what to look for and try correct. Short of kicking everyone off the net I had no clue.

So got banned and now with OpenWeb. These guys show you what uncapped is supposed to be like.

So how much data you need to go through before mweb bans you?

About 1TB a month on 4Mbps line. Well that is what earned me my lifetime ban ;) also tried replying to those warning emails, and adjusted my patterns as per OP. they kept saying we don't care how much you use it when you use, but stop abusing it!? Useless, been with afrihost since and haven't had any of the issues that plague other forumites here.

From what I picked up, it works out daily. I seemed to hit abuse warning if I went above 30GB's in a day (6mbps connection).
So you can do 1GB a day the whole month, and the last day do 40GB and you will get an abuse warning.

Fooking hell, that's a lot of data.

We've been asking for exact guidelines on MWEB's AUP for a long time (check the threads) yet they deliberately keep it vague.

The moment I receive such a letter I'll show then my fist, but with a AUP attached! :D

*AUP reads: "Should my ISP ever decides to be douchy and abuse the definition of 'upcapped', such ISP is advised to interpret my raised fist as if the middle finger has been raised at them."

I've been saying it's vague ever since they launched their uncapped. And then I was promptly attacked by OVER 9000 raging fanboys telling me how clear and unambiguous their AUP is. Now it seems pretty much everyone agrees with me and they'll say they always have. I still say the moment I get any of this nonsense, I'm out.

I sorta agree with MWEB on this, 1TB is crazy usage, and is not fair because it supersedes the average usage on that product by at least 6-8x
